MANCHESTER, N.H. - As they ponder how to win back the White House, many Democrats fear the early front-runner for their party's 2008 presidential nomination, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, carries so much baggage that she could drag the party down to defeat.
Party insiders think she will enter the race shortly after her expected re-election as a New York senator later this year -- with a $50 million head start on fund raising toward 2008.
But ominous signs abound, and combined, they suggest her campaign would conjure a clash between the lure of Clinton nostalgia and the fear of Clinton fatigue.
One new poll shows that a majority of registered voters never would vote for her. Another shows that a majority do not want her to run, including a majority of independent voters.
One veteran South Carolina Democratic strategist says she is so well-known -- and polarizing -- that it is hard to see how she could change any minds.
"We all believe she's wonderful," said Dick Harpootlian, a former South Carolina Democratic Party chairman. "But we also believe that if she's the nominee, it sets up perfectly for the Republicans to win the White House for another four years."
Clinton has not committed to running. Aides say she is focused on winning her second Senate term next November, and they declined to comment on what they insist is a hypothetical 2008 presidential campaign.
Still, party activists expect her to run, and to start with a decided edge over such potential rivals as former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, Sens. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Joseph Biden of Delaware, former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina and New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
One reason for her presumptive lead, of course, is the affection in the party for her husband

Well, I'm sure tired of her.
Crusty stuff.
what if new yorkers say, "Maybe I don't want her representing us for 2 years, most of that time while running for President...." and she's defeated. Then what?
Me, too....but, I want her out there talking all of the time...because she is so good at sticking her foot in her mouth..
PLUS, her speaking voice is so off putting..that it should bring her down all by itself...LOL
KKT's shrillness helped elect Bob Ehrlich win in Maryland and HRC's shrillness will help the Republican nominee in 2008.
That would be a great start.
Exactly. She should keep talking to keep her culture of hate in front of the people. :)
Then she will divorce her donkey and move in with Ellen Degeneres......
Have you noticed how she is working on that voice of hers lately?
I am guessing she is taking speech lessons to sound less strident and angry, more modulated, etc. But, it still isn't coming across.
Daniel Henninger from The Wall Street Journal pointed out in his Friday column a week or two ago that the Democrats' high-decibel reaction to every anti-Bush story that comes along, even if not convincing to people who pay attention to the details, may give that part of the public that doesn't pay close attention a feeling of being tired of the Bush administration because of the constant uproar.
Bush fatigue, plus a third party candidacy, could allow Hillary to get to the White House even if more than half the country is unable to stand her.
I'd like to believe that this witch can't be elected POTUS, but I'm too cynical or paranoid to hope that she can't be. The left is so nuts, vocifierous, hateful and relentless in their hate for Bush and America.
I believe they would sell us out to the Islamofascists. Forgive me, but I think Hillary Rodham is the end of the world. I hope something terrible happens to her. She's dangerous.

Without even taking into account her tendency toward acts of treason, her RICO-racketeering, her recidivism, her lying, her looting, her thieving, her mass-murdering, her propensity to psychopathologically-predatorily co-serial-rape, her inability to run a 7-Eleven or to organize a trick for a whore on an aircraft carrier -- and her room-temperature IQ.
What? Teddy's not running?
The WNBC/Marist Poll showed that 51 percent of registered voters do not want her to run, including 25 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of independents. Also, 51 percent of registered voters in a recent Gallup poll said they definitely would not vote for Clinton.
Right now, don't look good for the Beaste. But don't worry, she'll have the LSM singing her praises 24/7 soon enough.
Damn, I just realized I should try to make money telling liberal idiot politicians how to behave. Gore's "alphaness", Kerry's "athletic prowess", Edwards' "manliness".
Know what I B tawkin' 'bout Hitlery?
Let us pray real hard that New York voters wake up!!
wishful thinking,!!!
No...it isn't working, because now she is talking so slow, and loud, that is sounds like she thinks she is speaking to morons...that have to be "talked down" to...
