You're absolutely right and a quick peruse through the firs ten chapters of the Koran paints that picture as clear as one would care to admit for anyone that's objective.

If you were a foreigner and happened to find yourself at a Klan rally or White Supremist gathering, you would come away with a wrong-headed impression about Americans, too.
You have to consider, that very often Diaspora peoples, like Turks in Germany, feel the need to defend their race and and the trapping of its civilization more than they would if they were at home. I would make no more of it than that. Turks were a steadfast ally vs the USSR, sent a brigade to Korea, and for years was one of the few Islamic nations to recognize Israel. The paradigm has shifted somewhat with the collapse of the USSR, but I'm not willing to throw the baby out with the bath water just yet. If the religious party comes to power there, and the government further erodes the reforms instituted by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, then I think it would be time to view this nation with greater suspicion. Right now, there are liqour stores and nightclubs in Istanbul, so I don't think the religious nuts there have made much progress.

We had Nazis marching in Orlando this week. That doesn't make Americans fascists. Just because some filmaker in Turkey makes agitprop films that doesn't mean that Turkey is our enemy, anymore than the fact that Brokeback Mountain was made in Wyoming makes everyone in that state gay.
