A drum maker who became infected with anthrax after inhaling spores from raw animal hides is in serious condition, with breathing trouble.
But officials are reassuring the public that there's no broader health risk from the case.
The outlook for 44-year-old Vado Diomande was a shift from earlier this week, when officials said he was breathing on his own and in relatively good shape for someone exposed to anthrax.

This really does sound like old fashioned animal skin to human anthrax. It is really sad for this guy, but not particularly note worthy beyond a human interest story.
I wonder if it's even legal to bring animal skins into the U.S. from another country without going through a rigorous inspection process with U.S. Customs.
Good question. Especially from Africa.
I'm 99% sure it is not without jumping through a number of regulatory hurdles. That's the last of this guys problems at the moment though. Personally if he survives I'd be tempted to let him slide as I'm pretty sure hes learned his lesson.
Yeah, you wonder how he is gettin raw hides here. I'd imagine the regulatory process/duties imposed would make it cost prohibitive-
