"You've got to wake up pretty early in the morning to fool old Barney Fife" was one of his favorite lines and one that I have adopted for myself :-)
I'll miss you, Mr. Knotts.

Am I the only one to remember Don Knotts as the shaky brain surgeon on Ed Sullivan -50's TV show?

I've gone so far as to check out towns in western North Carolina. The people there are great...the weather is a LOT better than where I live in Pittsburgh...people don't think your crazy cuz you watch NASCAR...the food is excellent...there IS a Church in the Wildwood...and there are places where you can go to hear real country/bluegrass music.
I'd go there in a flash, and planned to do just that after youngest son graduates HS in 2008. But over the past couple of years as I've been researching moving there I've come to realize Wife just wouldn't survive. She needs to live where we are...in the town where we both grew up, with her friends and neighbors. Because of that I've sorta put the move way on the back burner.

I don't remember seeing that particular episode, but he was great in that show. So many classic lines, especially, "Nip it in the bud! NIP IT IN THE BUD!"
He had this ability to bring a great subtleness to even the most broad, slapstick humor. And he could milk awkward moments like no other comedian. His speech before the Chamber of Commerce in Mr. Chicken is a classic example!
"That electrician must be a democrat..."

My earliest memory of Don Knotts was from about 1970(?): My Elementary school played movies on Fridays after school in the main auditorium. Cost a quarter to get in and popcorn was a dime. The movie one Friday was "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken". A good time was had by all, no foul language either. Rest in peace.
They couldn't get the blood off the piano keys.
And they used Bon Ami!

Wasn't Andy Griffith the star of The Andy Griffith show?
Yeah, and he was great in the role of the straight man (old form of the phrase), but Barney always stole the show.

I could watch those darn show over and over, and they keep me laughing, and my kids rolling on the floor laughing is hysterics also....
