Bush would accept slight delay in ports deal-Rove Thu Feb 23, 2006 4:19 PM ET

WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush would accept a slight delay in permitting Dubai Ports World to acquire a British company that operates six key U.S. ports, senior White House adviser Karl Rove told Fox News.

When asked if Bush would accept a slight delay in implementing the takeover of P&O , Rove said: "Yes, look, there are some hurdles, regulatory hurdles, that this still needs to go through on the British side as well that are going to be concluded next week.

If congress has enough votes to override a veto, he'll have to accept whatever they give him.

There's not going to be a bill, so Bush won't have to veto anything.

Bush will accept whatever delay (including scaping) in the ports deal if FReepers are 54% against.

FReepers don't amount to a hill of beans in the big picture.

It's over Mr. Prez... let it go.

It's over all right. The deal is going to go through. If you haven't been able to figure that out by now, you're not paying attention.

"You want al gore who goes to saudi arabia and bashes american abuses after 9/11 for rounding up arabs."

No.

"You want al gore who in front of sheiks in saudi arabia screams for more saudi visas."

No.

"You want John Kerry who talks of american troops terrorizingt iraqis."

No.

If it were up to me and I had the power to do so, I'd would form a party that reflected the interests of our people and promoted and safeguarded our Western European culture and our Christian heritage.

Neither major party, as it stands today, does the above, but each party looks out to line their own pockets at the expense of the rest of our people.

You know the President doesn't make policy based on polling. This is Bush giving Congress a chance to back down. This deal will go through.

My hope and prayer is that if the Democrats do get power this year, I hope Nancy Pelosi becomes embroiled in a huge scandal.

listen to talk radio - 90% of the callers are against it, the hosts are almost totally against it (and I'm not just talking about Savage).

"There's not going to be a bill,..."

I've been wondering what the hell kind of bill they think they could create! Seems to me it's either got to be the "No A-rab Act of 2006" or they'll ban any foreign management of American ports. Either one is a trainwreck for Congress and for the country.

not a chance, it will never go through as is.

After every branch of the military has given approval to this, and every agency of the government has approved it, the Congress is not going to change anything.

It will go through as is, with Congress given thorough briefings on what this includes so that they'll look like they were involved.

Those who opposed this and the racist Democrats are going to look like fools.

Except for Levin, the "hosts" you're talking about are...wait for it.... GLORIFIED DJs!!!!! I know Savage is a botonist or something, but he's no more intelligent about politics or foreign policy than my uncle Clyde.

you will never change public opinion on this, if it goes through "as is". more important then public opinion overall, is public opinion within the republican ranks, where its losing badly. why would people who are against this now, change their minds, if nothing happens over the next 45 days other then a regurgitation of what we have heard for the last 4 days?

Doesn't matter. Rush came out with a perfect explanation of why this deal makes sense, and Tony Snow has been doing the same for three days.

The talk show hosts (like Mark Levin, Mark Davis, Sean Hannity, and Mike Gallagher) are ill-informed, jumped the gun, and don't have the courage to back down and admit they were wrong.

They are, and you are. This deal is going to happen. The fact that you've heard nothing but silence from Frist and Hastert (and John McCain and John Warner backed the deal today) since yesterday ought to tell you something.

Recently I have been in the process of changing my mind about Dobbs because he is so relentless about the border. but tonight I witnessed him almost salivate, chris matthews style, about the prospect of civil war in Iraq. A patriot would not go there IMHO. I saw a nasty side of him tonight.
