What do you think of the Olympic medal design.
I learned the hosting country for the Winter games can design their own medals where as the Summer games' host must use the 'standard' design.

If the closing ceremonies are as bad as the opening ceremonies, I will pass. Enough of Yoko Ono and "Imagine." You would have thought it was a hippie reunion.

Then I didn't miss anything? hehe!

I heard Bob Costas say it was designed around the traditional concept of the Italian piazza, the round spaces ubiquitous in Italian towns. That seemed strange to me but whatever.
I think they look like CDs.

And who can forget the skating costumes, designed by Elvira. It's just been weird. I will tune in tonight, though. Sasha gave the most beautiful performance I've ever witnessed.

That is the first thing I thought when I saw them...CDs!
Italy is known for it's fashion and this is the design they came up with for the Olympics!
eeeks!

I did crack up at the Italian ballet dancer who tore off his suit and had a mohawck.....
I'll be watching tonight as well, personally I think Sasha should be a few points ahead of the Russian instead of .03.

I think she's a member of the IOC, nothing like having an anti-American on the international committee!!!

I think they're the cheesiest looking medals I've ever seen in my life. In fact they look like cheese bagels.
Which is why you see in TV clips so many of the athletes holding them in their teeth or simulating taking a bite out of them.
For athletes such as the chip-on-the-shoulder skater, Sean Davis, they are the perfect teething rings.

I heard some blurb on the news this morning about Davis pulling out of another race? I thought he was only competing in one?

I missed the female skating short program, but saw Sasha's routine on replay last night. Much more expressive than the Russian performance. Of course, I don't have much confidence with regard to the judging. It looks though, like they are trying to make the system more equitable, but you never know.
I've seen some skaters wipe out, only to get enough points for second place, even considering mandatory deductions...so I don't know how it will turn out. I guess we'll get the answer tonight when the women's free skate is on.
It's a shame that more Americans aren't tuning in this year (judging by the ratings). I mean, the Olympics occur every two years for about 15 days...you'd think people would be interested enough in competition and sport to tune in.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't care about anything unless the USA is doing well, but I have to hand it to some of the other countries there. Watching Italy blow away Norway in the 4 x 10km cross country skiing relay on home snow was impressive, not to mention Paerson wining the women's slalom.
If I had one criticism, it would be the way NBC presents the games. Too many commercials, too many human interest stories and not enough sports. Between their multiple networks, they should be running things nearly 24x7 so those who want to tune in can see their preferred sport, every heat, semi-final, etc.
