This ignorant doofus pretty much sums it all up . . .

Doesn't our military ships use these Ports??? For that reason alone this deal should be scrapped!

Actually, they don't. Our military ships make far more port calls in the freaking United Arab Emirates itself in a typical month than at all of the six ports that included in the DPW/P&O deal in the last ten years.

We also have a large air base in the UAE that, from a strategic standpoint, we can't aford to lose. The base is there to protect our oil interests and our shipping interests in the region. We need to think of the consequences if we scuttle the port deal.

There have been reports that Madeline Albright, Bob Dole, Tom Daschle, and other DC poobahs have been enlisted (as lobbyists) to help in the Dubai deal.

Which is really - as with Neil Bush - a seamy but separate issue from the wisdom (or not) of the deal itself. Hiring lobbyists is one of dark practices of DC that always fuels conspiracy theories which are diversionary from the issue at hand.

So this article doesn't really shed any additional lightr on whether there are or are not real and tangible security issues in the sale of P&O to DPW, or whether there are any real and practical alternatives.

"when the left comes up with these conspiracy theories, what is the reaction?"

Oh, they'll latch on to this one with a vengeance, even though it means precisely nothing.

Daschle and Albright have also been reported this week to have been enlisted as lobbyists for Dubai.

Listening to General Tommy Franks on the Tony Snow right now. He says that the UAE is a great friend of America that helped us immensely in the Afghanistan War and that continues to help us to this day. He points out that we need to be able to recognize the difference between an ally and an enemy and that the UAE is an ally.

I believe him.

I understand the attraction.. my first reaction was WHAT THE F??

My wife is currently saying WHAT THE F??

But when you think about it, you realize that it is NOT port security being addressed, but operations. The UAE does not want to lose a $6.5B investment by screwing it up with security issues.

If UAE wanted to smuggle a nuke into the USA, they would bring it in over the Mexican border and keep their investments sound.

We need to think of the consequences if we scuttle the port deal.

We need to start drilling for oil off the coast of California and tell the enviro wackos to take a hike.

If Jimmy Carter were in office and his beer-swilling, slob brother was accepting money from the towel-heads the "conservatives" would be foaming at the mouth.

I'm not saying the President's brother had anything to do with this absurd deal. He probably did not. But we don't know for sure,

Miss "I'm in favor of steroid use in pro-sports because I know some pro athletes" Schlussel uses guilt-by-association to bolster her weak case.

Why anybody takes this opportunistic broad seriously is beyond me.

Try this one on for size:

"President Kerry threatens to veto Congressional effort to stop planned takeover of operation of American ports by Arabian nation."

Good grief...another shady Neil Bush deal. At least Billy Carter just came out with Billy Beer and Clintoon's brother Roger was a clownish druggie. Neil should have been thrown in the slammer when he was young and maybe he would have learned not to further embarrass the family.

Perhaps good points but this is NOT playing well out in the public where there is a lot of anti-Muslim sentiment and fear. Believe me the dems will use this to their advantage, they are just beginning to do so.
