Detained Egypt, Saudi suspects lynched in Iraq second city

Eleven suspected foreign fighters from Egypt and Saudi Arabia were seized by gunmen in Iraq's largely Shiite second city of Basra Wednesday and all but one of them lynched, police said.

The bodies of three of them were found in the city centre close to the offices of the state-owned South Oil Company.

The corpses of another seven were found in a southwestern neighbourhood of Basra.

The attack on the suspected Sunni militants came amid a wave of anger across Shiite central and southern Iraq over a bomb attack on one of Shiite Islam's holiest shrines.

The only downside to this is that if these were the actual perps, then it's going to be pretty hard to question them and find out who sent them.

As I understand it from another story on this, the perps were a commando team of terrorists disguised with police uniforms, who went in and planted the explosives.

It's not clear from this story whether the perps were lynched or just any old group of foreign terrorists who happened to be in prison.

It might help defuse the pressure toward civil war if the blame can be squarely put where it belongs, on al Qaeda.

Understand your correction and agree. Those goons shot up trying to hide amoung goats in al-Qaem etc., where combatants for the most part. The Iraqi where fighting back as the foreign goons where trying to take over their villages. So what you say is correct in principle. I see the difference now.
Thanks. Yea. It is rather interesting to see them finally starting to get a bit pissed off. Hopefully the more sane Shia will see that most likely the mosque in Sammara was blown up by either zmans goons or co-ops from some radical sunni band and not a general attack by Sunni on them.
But this shit gets out of hand. Half the time we don't really know who did what to whom. I can see how many of our Freeper population have simply been in disfavor of this whole deal. But again. We went in and now we have to finish it as best as possible dispite the continued insurgent entities will, to not see a democratic nationalize government come to past.
What I do hope shall come to be is that more Freepers and people they can slowly educate, shall see there are vast differences in various Islamic groups both from a cultural and religous view point. Islam is far from being united in anything and often deep rifts surface. So believing all muslims are out to kill the infidels is pure fiction. For how does one even fully define an infidel in a given Islamic sect/sub sect. As far as Salafist and Wahaabist are concerned all Shia are infidels, idol worshippers and dogs, and they are not really muslims. So the world of Islam is not out to get the western world as to many continue to try to perpetrate. I continue to dwell on what we read some six months back about the Iraqi commando unit that where said to have said about their US Marine counterparts, paraphrased: "they are not only our commrades in arms but they are now our brothers". No one can convince me that this sunni/shia Iraqi soldiers hate Americans at this point. Some have said they love us, they see what our sacrifices and fair play have done for them.

In the end, we must see how our "new friends" deal with the Koran's admonitions against taking an infidel as a friend....

A reliable friend is not determined by their words or actions while you are helping them.... It is determined by their actions when YOU need help, especially if you need help against their fellow religionists.

The proving time has not yet come, for our new friends in Iraq... Not yet. I for one, hope it NEVER comes..

Amen. Same here. As far as the Iraqi army goes, when they are patrolling the streets with our guys and each knows they must depend on the each other to cover their sixes, they are brothers in arms. These Iraqi are putting bullets into the heads of goons, along side our men. I perhaps used a quite select group as a potential future example as how things may play out. But as you I do not wear rose colored glasses. There are obviously hundreds of thousands of Iraqi that cannot wait for us to leave. Then again, there are those that want us to stay. Tis is a mixed bag indeed.

This is the tipping point for Iraq.

When we get to a point that the locals recognize that when they are forced to choose, they will pick us over the head hackers.

Expect a intelligent ad campaign to start in Iraq soon. In it, scenes like the Mosque bombing will be shown in stark contrast to the rampant violence exhibited by our enemies.

A culture not used to Madison Avenue ads is particularly susceptible to them, and Al Quiedas days are numbered.

Some have predicted this to be the start of civil war.

On the contrary, I believe that it is in fact the start of a new era in Iraq.

We needed a common enemy. Thankfully, the head hackers were only to happy to accommodate us.

Cheers,

Correction to my earlier post.

Line Expect a intelligent ad campaign to start in Iraq soon. In it, scenes like the Mosque bombing will be shown in stark contrast to the rampant violence exhibited by our enemies.

Should read;

Expect a intelligent ad campaign to start in Iraq soon. In it, scenes like the Mosque bombing will be shown in stark contrast to Schools, Hospitals and Infastructure built by the US and its Troops and the US sponsored Democratic Government that makes it possible.

Cant even blame the keyboard for THAT one.

Zarqawi could readily counter such a campaign -- with a few clips from the CBS Evening News featuring Democrat spokesmen...

No problem. The L/MSM are only allow to deal directly with those that hate the US or at the least want us to go. Those poor slobs that live in Sadr city for instance. The slums. They cannot interview Iraqi with tears in their lives that love America for all it has done for them. And they cannot interview Iraqi soldiers whom have made public announcements they love the Marines like their own brothers. etc.. I for one have harped my guts out for going on two years about all the hospitals, schools, water treatment plants, repaired and new sewage systems in places that have never had such luxaries and the a slowly being rebuilt electrical distribution system that the whole country is benifiting from not just Baggy Dad, Ar Rammada, Al Hilla and other major towns in the past. But obviously L/MSM cannot cross the boundries. They must continue the misinformation drive as best as they can.
