Talk about a pig in a poke. He didn't know about it -- but he'll risk his political position on the decision being right!

I don't buy it.

So he approved it before he even knew about it and is prepared to go down over something he didn't know about until yesterday or so? Does that about cover it?

Who is advising this guy?

I am not sure a british company selling itself to another company needs to tell us. I think the issue is not who knew what when but what we are doing now that we know a sale is in the process.

We can cancel the P&O deal as we hope our agreement notes that the agreement is not assignable and move to another company.

But now he's defending the deal with a political suicide bomb attached to his waist.

Slowly take your finger off the trigger, Mr. President. Remove the bomb and announce that you will not stand in the way of the congressional review of the deal.

Tell Halliburton to get to work on their proposal to run the ports.

But he still said he'd veto any Congressional attempt to scuttle the deal. What's he trying to do, win the John F. Kerry award for Political Whoredom...?

Whew. Plausible deniability.

Now he needs to look into and take back the political high ground.

The US called off a strike against Osama Bin Laden because members of the UAE royal family were visiting him in Afghanistan.

UAE royals, bin Laden's saviours

March 25, 2004 12:04 IST

The Central Intelligence Agency did not target Al Qaeda chief Osama bin laden once as he had the royal family of the United Arab Emirates with him in Afghanistan, the agency's director, George Tenet, told the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks on the United States on Thursday.

Had the CIA targeted bin Laden, half the royal family would have been wiped out as well, he said.

The 10-member bipartisan commission is investigating the events leading up to the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US.

Perhaps he knows the actual facts, huh?

That was my first thought too. He needs to cover so he can extricate himself from the political firestorm and still save face.

According to other reports, Rumsfeld didn't know about it either.
