WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Dennis Hastert wrote to President Bush on Tuesday asking for a moratorium on an Arab company's takeover of operations at six major U.S. seaports.

May reason and common sense prevail in this time of war against some muslims and they not be allowed to run our ports. Please help Mr. Hastert.
Well, it would make it easier than walking across our southern border.
Red herring. Terminal operators do not control port security. TSA and the Coast Guard do, regardless of the operator.
And what makes you think a terrorist would have (or not) a marginally more difficult time getting a nuke through had Singapore's PSA International won the bid for P&O?
This issue is all emotion, no logic.
Wasn't this reviewed already?
They should make a law to say we can pick a country based on nationality and religion. It's the only way.
The company running the business operations of a port does not control access to the port.
They arrange so that when a ship come into port there is a place for it to dock, and people to load or unload cargo.
They aren't the ones who inspect cargo or approve or disapprove cargo coming or going.
Go Denny Go.
This is what I am starting to think as well after reading up on U.A.E. and the United States relationship over the years. From the State Department Web site:
The U.A.E. contributes to the continued security and stability of the Gulf and the Straits of Hormuz. It is a leading partner in the campaign against terrorism, providing assistance in the military, diplomatic, and financial arenas since September 11, 2001. The U.A.E. military currently provides humanitarian assistance to Iraq.
There were 3 residents of Ohio arrested yesterday for supporting terrorism. The 9-11 hijackers lived in Florida for a time. This means we should no longer contract Ohio or Florida companies to do anything. Ever. /sarc
I'm with you - the Prez may not always do what I would have him do, but he's no idiot. The Dims, the MSM, and some ambitious Repubs are doing all they can to either hurt the Prez and/or make political hay with this one.
Patently obvious when one considers who the leaders of the opposition are. When did hillary and chuckie ever do anything that could remotely be considered in the best interest of the country. Their past actions betray their present self interest. Plus the profiling angle.
They are willing to profile arab/muslim folks where ports are concerned, but totally unwillling to do the same where air ports are concerned. The mountain and the molehills have met on the field of battle. May the best man win.
The very same company operates ports around the world and could have been involved in container shipment of any number of dangerous items sent to our ports from foreign ports, but as yet, to our knowledge has not happened. Not that this should give us any reason to oppose or agree to this "Deal"
Did Schneider Logistics which aquired American Port Services put in a bid?
I've been reading up on the subject and have also come to that conclusion.
There is more involved than emotion though, there's a lot of political pandering and manipulation going on, and much more misinformation being floated than truth.
More people tend to vote emotionally, than logically.
When election time comes, it will be interesting to see which republican nominees remained quiet about this.
I'm not so sure I get your obsession with this article and what's to be explained. The article focuses on numerous world wide ports with the same problem. And I agree completely. I don't agree that Dubai is any better or worse than any of the others simply because she is Arab/Muslim, or some supposed freewheeling mecca (no pun intended)for smugglers.
One major problem with this thing is that Carter supports it. There is no way on earth Carter would support this if it wasn't bad for America.
"Please then all knowing and wise one I beg you to explain this:"
Explanation: Dubai does not run U.S. port security, the U.S. does.
Another red herring.
