BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- An explosion ripped through a Shiite holy site in Samarra Wednesday, destroying the golden dome of the al Askariya mosque, a U.S. military statement and a local security official said.

See, what you're missing is that we've learned that that old "ugly American" label was just a tool to make us feel guilty. Now we've met the rest of the world, we've been "seeeensitive", and it is far, far uglier than we've ever dreamed of being.

I'm sorry - I have to disagree. Don't get me wrong - I have no love of Islam or the Muslims. Buildings are different. I've dreamed of seeing the Golden Mosque since I was a kid - can't do it now. The most beautiful building in the world is the Taj Mahal. It is an Islamic building - so you'd just as soon it be blown to smitereens? It's the building that's important - not the religious beliefs of the one who built it!
It needs to be replaced with a museum called "Get on with it". In that area, nothing has improved since the 8th day.

Anybody who thinks we will be able to pull our troops out of Iraq anytime in the next hundred years and this place not turn into a massive war zone between shiite islam(backed by Iran) and sunni islam(backed by Saudi Arabia) disrupting the oil from the whole region to the world thus causing oil needy countries to march their way, has their head in the sand(never underestimate the islamic mind for not seeing the big picture).
The only other way to keep the peace in Iraq without our presence there is to reinstall a ruthless dictator. Just great.
When I visited India I visited quite a few importnat Muslim pilgrimage sites. Very impressive and beautiful structures.
This is pure insanity and is a loss for all of humanity regardless of religion.

What a perfectly horrible thing to say.
Things will really get exciting when Israel completes their partial withdrawl from the West Bank and reclaims the Temple Mount.
That's the only possible gain I can see from their withdrawl.
And the reaction will make all this look like child's play.
