This would include Catholics Jews Muslims as well as Protestants.
To tell the truth I am not that excited as a Catholic, I don't really care if he stays as head of the Church of England or represents all faiths.
After all it all started with Henry the Eighth in changing the Church in England for reasons of his own.
So if Prince Charles does there is a precedent.
As for Prince Charles becoming Monarch when the Queen Dies. Well we have a long line of Monarchs some good some bad some downright looney and Britain as survived them all.
The Monarchy is an institution not a individual.
As for the Arab connection. Prince Charles has many friends amongst Arab royalty, as does the Queen, many through his love of polo, racing and other sporting connections.
In the end he will be just a constitutional figurehead.
So in other words you don't care?

My deep ignorance of this subject does not restrain me: I do not believe the institution of the British monarchy could survive the reign of a King Charles.

Actually you might be spot on, it was reported in the press recently that Charles would take the name King George (the 6th or 7th I think) as Charles had always been a very unlucky name for Kings in England.

whether he states he will defend one faith or defend all the faiths will not have a effect on Britain.
Take any controversial subject such as this and you will find only a tiny minority on both ends of the spectrum who do believe it is truly controversial and do care.
If Prince Charles wishes to add my faith and therefore a Catholic can become a heir it wont effect me or my family unless its my daughter who one of his sons may marry at a future date.
