McCain Stands with the President
Corner ^ | 2/21/06

Statement by Senator John McCain on the debate over the Bush Administration’s decision to allow Dubai Ports World of the United Arab Emirates manage U.S. sea ports.

“We all need to take a moment and not rush to judgment on this matter without knowing all the facts. The President’s leadership has earned our trust in the war on terror, and surely his administration deserves the presumption that they would not sell our security short. Dubai has cooperated with us in the war and deserves to be treated respectfully. By all means, let’s do due diligence, get briefings, seek answers to all relevant questions and assurances that defense officials and the intelligence community were involved in the examination and approval of this transaction. In other words, let’s make a judgment when we possess all the pertinent facts. Until then, all we can offer is heat and little light to the discussion.”

Go to Google or Yahoo and do a search in 'Web' for Dubai Ports or DPW.

That's all I did.

No, we're aligned with National Security. You are aligned with Carter, a stranger to policies that achieve national security.

are you listening to talk radio? up and down the line, hardly anyone in the ranks supports this. and I am not just talking about Michael Savage

That is because it is about ratings in Talk Radio. The only person not concerned about ratings is Rush, because he owns his own show, and does not have to play to the prevailing opinion.

"So, what do you want him to do? Nationalize the ports and airlines? WOW, we could be just like a communist country then"

Nah, why would any rational President want to nationalize our ports during time of war and keep them from being handled by our own enemies?

My God, FReepers are backing Hillary and Schumer's position on this, and I'm backing McCain's?

Harriet Miers, revisited.  To be sure Chuckie and Shrill are only taking this position because it is anti-Bush, not because it's correct.

Here's another story, the Dubai group already has global ports, and probably some in the US:

P&O battle fans Singapore, Dubai rivalry (6 U.S. Ports)

snip:

Dubai won the first round when, two years ago, Dubai Port International elbowed out Singapore's state-owned ports group PSA with a $1.15 billion bid for the global port assets of U.S. firm CSX Corp.

the ranks within people on our side, who through their participation, are the alternate media.

the public nature of this story is not 4 months old, if it had been known 4 months ago, the reaction would have come at that time.

Dubai is an international city where capitalism is starting to flourish. the UAE military is VERY close to the USA military. I work for a company providing security and communications services for all the major transport hubs here in Dubai. The Dubai government is sparing no cost to upgrade their port facilities to USA anti-terrorist standards. I've been in Middle East for 6 years now---three different countries. Believe me, there are much bigger fish to fry than Dubai and the UAE.

To: plain talk; All

Would we have given control of our ports to the Germans or Japanese or any of their allies during World War II? That is the standard.

Oh, now you're PROVING my point about what a fraudulent disengenous poster you are; you left out MY response to you.

To: Stellar Dendrite

And why should I show you the favor of doing that when you never do? You constantly trash people on this forum to your little clique of pals like this is some kind of damn chat room.

And I stand by that; I think you're a troll.

Thanks for proving my point, SD!

even Rush said this was a political negative for the administration, and this veto threat makes it even worse.

And you still have not answered my question about why you aren't smart enough to realize that after a candidate no longer runs for office, the people who worked for him before MOVE ON.

I suspect you're being a troublemaker again.

What say you, if you dare?

It was known by some 4 months ago, apparently. What you are witnessing is the politicization of the issue by politicians desperate to look tough on Terrorism. Some of those people are moderate Republicans who some might feel to be a bit light in the loafers.
