Today President Bush traveled to Golden, Colorado to participate in the Energy Conservation & Efficiency Panel at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and discuss his national energy strategy, as well as tour the lab with Dan Arvizu, the director of the laboratory. Before leaving Colorado, the President visited the troops and their families at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora.

When he arrived home at the White House, he made a statement to the press regarding the controversial port buyout by the United Arab Emirates from Great Britain.

Enjoy your much needed trip to Sanity Island on the Daily Dose!!

Agreed.

"There are a lot of us that don't feel comfortable with this...but still respect President Bush...."

Exceptionally well put.

Hi snugs, did you see this earlier post?

A Visigoth In Kent?

A Visigoth in Kent?

The excavations at Springhead uncovered a large number of brooches. One in particular has turned out to be a very exciting discovery.
X-ray photography showed that the 5th-6th century iron bow brooch was of Visigothic design, of a type known as Estagel.
The Visigoths (West Goths) were one of the German tribes. Settled near the Black Sea in the 3rd century AD, by the 6th century they had migrated west and reached Spain and northern France.

Kent was probably the most cosmopolitan region in the country at this time and Saxons and Jutes have left evidence of their culture here.
In the last 30 years or so, a number of objects of Visigothic design have come to light, mainly in south-east England.
Now this brooch adds to the evidence for connections between the people of Kent and the small number of Visigothic groups known to have lived in northern France at the time.

To discover more about this brooch and its significance, read the full article (PDF, 416Kb) as published in LUCERNA - The Roman Finds Group Newsletter for January 2006.

Well said, Mike. Although I think Hannity serves our side well with the repetition thing. It works. There are many out there that only catch the news once in a great while, and may not have heard our side. I was in advertising at one point in my life, and the stats for having a person even see an ad and have it register is at least SEVEN times.

Hannity is more about the masses than those of us that are really into current events. He serves a needed purpose.

That said, I totally agree, and wish he could formulate a question without taking a full twenty seconds someday.

No pun.

No I had not seen that before thanks for the info.

We often have finds in our area when new housing developments or road are built which delays the project until everything is photographed and cataloged.

I hope they can work it out. I told hubby this morning that I thought they should just put a clause in the contract that if he isn't healthy enough to play, the Chargers should have an way out. Drew says he's healthy...let him put his $ where his mouth is. I also hope he stays.

...Course I'm really still a Viking fan (I grew up there and froze in the stands watching the games with my Dad, when it was The Met). I'm still not over what's been happening in MN.

Dad is a bit down as he has not been well enough to get out much recently and also the weather has turned a bit cold and rainy which does not help with his heart problems. Thanks for asking.

What is so terribly wrong about this whole debate is the fact that all DWP would control is the terminal activities. Not a single say in how the Port is run, or how Security measures are implimented, or any command of anything at all at the Port. No say in who works there, no say on what goes in or out, and no say on a single aspect of the day to day operations. All they are bidding on is the ability to collect the funds for loading and unloading the containers on the ships.

IMHO this is all to do about nothing

Yeah - that happens fairly often. He understands politics and the behavioural patterns of 'Rats, but when it comes to weightier matters such as law, economics, science, or corporate finance, he is thin on the substance. That never seems to slow him up any, however.

I agree. There is lots of ignorance and hysteria around here tonight.

I am not going to waste my time arguing with most of them, as they are the types who only show up when there is a good Bush-bash going on.

I agree Mike, I have worked in a shipping related job for 25 years and I know what security checks on cargo there is worldwide and how it has increased dramatically. Air from early 1990s after Locerbie and sea after 9/11.

IMHO the Republicans in Congress are fearing that due to ignorance the American people will be worried about port security and that could affect their re-election in November. The DemoRATS are just using it as a way to bash the President and therefore indirectorarily the Republican Party and therefore see it as an advantage for the November elections.

I was trying to watch Scarborough but he is such an idiot I couldn't take it anymore. I personally believe none of these talking heads are concerned about the facts, all they are worried about is ratings and continuing with their herd mentality

I've noticed that both parties seem to use the media as a basis for their opinions in cases where the American people generally do not have much knowledge outside the media hype. Why? Because they believe that the American people will believe what the media tells them. So instead of standing up for what they believe in or trying to explain things to the American people, they yell and run frantically away from the President.
