Prosecutors Say Defendant Should Be Given Life Term

McKINNEY, Texas -- A woman on trial for allegedly cutting off her infant's arms had "layer upon layer of" insanity and psychosis, a Texas state psychiatrist said.

Dr. David Self told a jury Monday that Dena Schlosser felt God was commanding her to cut off the girl's arms as well as her own arms, legs and head.

The mental expert evaluated Schlosser in the months after her November 2004 arrest.

Police responding to a 911 call found her covered in blood, still holding a knife and listening to a church hymn. She had cut her own shoulder.

Her trial is in its sixth day.

Schlosser has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors said she knew what she was doing and should be sent to prison for life.

Well, maybe it's time she go talk to God about this up yonder.

And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

I'm under the impression it's hard to survive without a head.

Missed that. Thought she "just" severed arms.

This article doesn't tell the whole story.

The woman was on medication for a severe mental disorder. Her pastor convinced her that all mental illness is caused by the Devil, and that if she just prayed hard enough, God would cast the demons from her. So she went off her medication. Sadly, she slipped into her psychosis and murdered her daughter.

The woman is clearly insane, and will ive her life in a mental institution. But the pastor of her church, in my opinion, is partly responsible.

There is no way this woman is going to prison. She will be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

The prosperity gospel hits again. When the disciples couldn't heal a kid, and asked why, Jesus pointed to their responsibility, not the victims.

Without a doubt. Probably not legally, but morally he is absolutely responsible.

That's what I thought I read. Only the arms.

Wonder why a man would have a child with such a disarranged person appears he was not far behind her on the mental thing.

I am law-and-order, lock-em-up-and-throw-away-the-key as they come but, even if she knew EXACTLY what she was doing, she is TOTALLY RUBBER-ROOM, SLEEVES-TIED-IN-THE-BACK INSANE!!!!!

Whether she is insane or not is known only to God. She needs to work it out with him, we need to arrange the meeting.

It's not just the women. It's the charlatan preachers who take advantage of the vulnerable.

Andrea Yates was also under the influence of some street preacher who encouraged her husband to have as many children as possible, when it ought to have been clear to him that his wife couldn't handle it.

These phonies are going to be measured for millstones.
