When I got to that third paragraph and read "George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and ronald Reagan", I just choked up. Wow, I agree, and I got to live at the same time and learn so much. I miss him. He is truly one of the greatest.

I pulled out my flamethrower when I noticed the absence of Reagan in the first list, then put it away when I saw his name in the second list.

Abe Lincoln invaded the South and suspended habeas corpus. For those sins he must be eternally damned.

Hey, did someone forget to mention Clinton? He was, after all, the first black president.

For Best Presidents, I would have to nominate Chester A. Arthur (enacted the first general Federal immigration law. Arthur approved a measure in 1882 excluding paupers, criminals, and lunatics), William Henry Harrison (only a couple months in office – couldn’t mess things up) and Ronald Reagan (for his contribution to the collapse of communism and the end of the Cold War).

George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan

Only one of these leaders saw fit to wage war against the states of this Republic.

I can tell you that Carter and Clinton are the worst presidents that this world has ever seen....carter couldn't do anything without Ms. Lillian's permission....clinton couldn't do anything with his pants zipped up.....

Let's see. When I was a child, Abraham Lincoln's birthday was February 12 and George Washington's was February 22. Two of our greats, one day (3-day weekend) to celebrate. Less filling, imo.

As usual my favorite president gets dissed. I think the last really great president we had was Calvin Coolidge.

Why is Kennedy on the list? Other than giving a few inspirational speeches, what did he do that was noteworthy, apart from his foreign-policy screwups and not getting us into WWIII?

John Kennedy does not fare well in review of history. Khruschev's son indicates that his father saw Kennedy as weak, indecisive and inept. In retrospect, the cold war started to get much hotter when Kennedy was in office and stayed that way until President Reagan's election.

We remember him for facing Khruschev down in the Cuban Missile Crisis. In fact, we gave up missiles in Turkey in trade for the missiles in Cuba. Kennedy totaly screwed the Cuban Brigade in the Bay of Pigs invasion by withdrawing air support that was promised. He did this after they were on the beach.

Kennedy's camelot would never survive if scrutinized at the same level that W experiences today (Although we know it would never happen). We saw him take nepotism to a level that would never be tolerated today, when he appointed his brother Bobbie as Attorney General.

We now know Kennedy had Addison's disease, a fatal disorder. We now know he was a drug addicted womanizer. These facts were completely concealed from the public by a incompetent or complicit press.

The main reason he got a "pass" on all this was Jackie. The public and press were starry eyed over her grace and charm then her martyred heroine status. His memory was untouchable as long as she was alive.

The worst of the 19th century is Linclon, the worst of the 20th is fdr, carter, clinton... fdr did the most harm to the body politic, carter was the most incompetant and clinton the most evil...

My American Flag is waving in the sun for President Washington and President Lincoln today. And my thoughts are with President Reagan as well.

Washington's Birthday was first declared a federal holiday by an 1879 act of Congress. The Monday Holiday Law, enacted in 1968, shifted the date of the commemoration of Washington's Birthday from February 22 to the third Monday in February, but neither that law nor any subsequent law changed the name of the holiday from Washington's Birthday to President's Day.

Today is “President’s Day.” A holiday originally intended to honor George Washington (and in some states Abraham Lincoln), President’s Day has degenerated into just another day off for government employees and an excuse for large retailers to hold sales.

That is an urban myth that has been debunked:

Presidents Day
Claim: The federal holiday observed in the United States on the third Monday of February is officially designated as "Presidents' Day."
Status: False.

Bottom line: The official designation of the federal holiday observed on the third Monday of February is, and always has been, Washington's Birthday.

Americas greatest president has not happened yet..
A President that returns the federal government to limited goverment..
Will be the greatest President of ALL.. and will encourage others to do the same to State, County and Local government too.. When the benefits of limited government on all levels has been ascertained.. Americans generally almost universally don't know that yet..

America is begging for the greatest President to show himself.. BIG government republicans even moderately BIG government republicans are the problem.. not democrats..

Democrats are immature children.. that never grew up.. as are most republicans especially ex-democrat republicans.. which are midgets or dwarves... having been stunted from growth by being a democrat.. However some have learned to use stilts.. and function almost like a republican..

First in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen. There is no equal.

Runners up in my book include Ronald Reagan (for turning the tide in this country against the forces of despair domestically and tyranny overseas) and Theodore Roosevelt (for, one and for all, settling the question of who was in charge in the Americas).

Most overrated is FDR, a man who succeeded tremendously in appointing a war cabinet that defeated two major world powers, but was a total failure in terms of domestic policy (higher unemployment prior to WWII than when he took office, court packing, etc.).

My favorite Presidents:
1. George Washington
2. Abe Lincoln
3. Ronald Reagan
4. Calvin Coolidge
5. Teddy Roosevelt
and soon on be on the list George W. Bush...

As for Kennedy, the more I read about him, the more I think he was an empty suit.
