Thousands of US troops to join landslide rescue as buried school is located

GUINSAUGON, Philippines (AFP) - The US military said it was committing up to 3,000 troops to help after a huge landslide in the Philippines, as the hunt for survivors became a grim search for bodies instead.

Foreign and local teams battled bad weather in the continuing search following Friday's tragedy, picking their way carefully through dangerous mud under which some 1,400 people are feared buried.

Rescuers Monday located the site of a school believed to contain some 200 students and 40 teachers in the village of Guinsaugon on Leyte island.

"They have discovered a trace of the school building," Joseph Chang, co-ordinator for a specialist Taiwan rescue team, told AFP, adding that crews have now pinpointed its location under tonnes of mud and rocks.

Unknown to those who kick us in the teeth constantly, God almighty is watching and every good deed the USA does, God repays! I'd rather have blessings than curses from the Lord!

"Because we are Americans. We rescue the innocent people caught in natural disasters. Feel free to disagree or to turn your back on people in need."

Oh, I see...
It's not like we don't have our own folks in similar need along our Gulf Coast - or in need of FORCE along our borders.....

As an American and a former Marine - I deeply resent our forces being used in this manner at this time in that place.

Charity BEGINS at home. Security of the HOME must take precedence over all others.... Since NONE of these bastards can or will do anything to protect or defend us from our declared enemies...

"I wasn't aware, that there is not charity at home."

Do you believe here is no further need at HOME?

Private individuals are free to direct their charity as they will...
My position is there are far more pressing NATIONAL needs for our Military than digging out bodies in the Philippines...

It not like there are no able bodied men there

Do you ever get the sick feeling that you're surrounded by fools, dolts and morons?

It it really just a part of getting old - to realize the species is degrading?

The Phillipines unceremoniously threw us out of Subic Bay and Clark AB after nearly a century, so why was "Uncle Sugar" the first one they called when they wanted help, and why did we come running?

I guess because these people's lives are more important than politics. They know who to depend on when things get bad.

GO MARINES!

After Mt. Pinatubo erupted, Clark AFB was uninhabitable. As for Subic Bay, there are indications many Filipinos regret losing the U.S. base. However, the reason you help people in a natural disaster is because it's the right thing to do. Period.

If you are a leader of a corrupt third world country, why bother to spend that tax money on emergency equipment and rescue training?

Just steal the money, and build a few more private villas and mansions for your family.

After all, Uncle Sugar will come around to pull your chestnuts out of the fire after any disaster.
