MUSLIM HACK ATTACK ON WESTERN WEB SITES
NY Post ^ | 2/20/2006 | NILES LATHEM

Muslim computer-hacker gangs have launched a massive attack on Danish and Western Web sites as part of the mass protests across the Arab world over the publication of cartoons making fun of the Prophet Mohammed.

The cyber-crime monitoring group Zone-H.org said in a statement that more than 1,000 Danish, Israeli and European sites were defaced or shut down by Islamic hackers in the last week.

And experts fear that's just the beginning of what could be a massive cyber-jihad stretching from the Middle East and Europe to the United States and dominating cyberspace for weeks, costing millions of dollars. "We have definitely seen a spike in the number of attacks. This definitely appears to be the result of the controversy over the Prophet Mohammed cartoons," said Jim Melnick of the cyber-security firm iDefense. "A full-blown e-jihad is a real possibility."

Don't believea word of this. If there are hackers, they have been paid, and are probably the same spammers that use trojaned machines to spew spam. You can buy a couple thousand zombie machines for an hour or a day if you know which web sites to visit.

There are not enough educated muslims in the world to mount an attack this large all on their own. There are no instructions for this in the koran, and doing anything not in the koran is showing up god

Nope, no way you can pin this on the ROP. They just don't have the brains for it.

The more they do this, the longer they have to wait for their dream of Islamic Europe to become reality.

Do honest people have the capability of hacking websites?

I think that we are drawing the vermin out of their holes.

Too bad we aren't stomping them while they are out.

This may be our last chance.

When the vermin get nukes, there is no doubt they will use them.

the little darlings ( as Ann Coulter calls them) sure do spend a lot of time devising ways to destroy things. Small wonder America's liberals love them.

Not only can't they take a joke, they can't take other people's freedom. The totalitarian attitudes of some Muslims have to be resisted.

Yet, we have Canadian university students in a student-led newspaper who drew up a cartoon with Jesus and Mohammed kissing each other lovingly but only with Jesus' face showing.

Hypocrisy is just dripping over there.

There are not enough educated muslims in the world to mount an attack this large all on their own.

It doesn't take very many people to hack that many websites. It just takes website administrators who don't secure their websites and keep their servers updated with the latest security patches. With the automated vulnerability scanning and exploitation tools available today and so many unpatched, unprotected websites, it is not too hard to hack and deface a large number of them.

Well said. And wholly right of course.

It's really pretty simple - since the UN was not successful in wresting control of the Internet name space, and since reasonable companies control the wired connections to the Muslim world - just flip the switch.

Cut them off and let them fester in their Country Wide Web.

Do honest people have the capability of hacking websites?

Yes. There are people who are employed as Penetration Testers. Their job is to hack systems to find the holes so that the system administrators can patch those holes before a malicious hacker finds them and exploits them for nefarious purposes. However, honest people don't deface websites or use their skills illegally.

Defacing wouldn't happen if the servers were properly secured and patched.

It's their own fault. They should firewall, use OpenBSD or some other highly protected environment, and keep their passwords secure.

The world is filled with nuts. Protect yourself.

Point taken.

Kinda like locksmiths being capable of opening locked doors without a key...quite different from a burglar.
