When Dick Cheney shot his friend it was a bizarre accident. But his handling of the event has wounded the Bush administration and infuriated the press. When the second most powerful man in America shoots his friend in the face, is it news? Apparently not to vice-president Dick Cheney, who waited 18 hours before disclosing to the public that he had sprayed his hunting companion, Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old Texas lawyer, with as many as 200 pieces of bird shot.
The extraordinary nature of the incident, and Cheney's initial refusal to own up to it, dominated newspaper headlines and late-night television in America last week. What started as a bizarre accident became an emblem of Cheney's disdain for the press, White House secrecy and, ultimately, a metaphor for the failures of the Bush administration.

1. his handling of the event has wounded the Bush administration
That's merely media spin. How this has "wounded" the administration is a very long stretch. Most americans don't care. Polling has proven that.
2. and infuriated the press
This is the line that gets me. Why would they be infuriated? How could they be infuriated? They're objective journalists. How could anybody who's objective get infuriated at anything? What's the guardian admitting here? And the why.... We all know why. It wasn't those in the "big media"(unlike big oil) who were called, it was some hole in the wall down in corpus christi who got the scoup.
3. Apparently not to vice-president Dick Cheney, who waited 18 hours before disclosing to the public that he had
The guardian's liberalism shines here.(yes, I haven't forgotten ohio 2004) This event and an 18 hour wait is big news, but a similar event and a 30 hour wait *COUGH*VINCEFOSTER*COUGH* is in no way shape or form a scandal of any kind.
4. an emblem of Cheney's disdain for the press
Why would Cheney have open arms for his political enemies? That doesn't make any sense.
Oh, no! I just accidentally shot a good friend! It was an accident! They're laying on the ground!!!
So who should I call first...9-11, or the press so I can tell them about it?
How long before Bill Clinton called the press after getting Monicaed?
Ask the dimoCRACKS. They've done it repeatedly the last several years.
You could have gone back even farther to ted's overnight wait to sober up while Mary Jo lay dying.
Never mind Clinton, how long did Ted, the killer, Kennedy wait before he called for HELP?
WHAT? He didn't call the Guardian, either?
The first thing Cheney should have done, obviously, was to get out his cell phone and dial long distance to inform the Communist Guardian what had just happened.
How dared he omit that duty?
How long before Bill Clinton called the press after having Hillary's goons roll Vince Foster up in a rug and dump him in Fort Marcy Park?
F the MSM...

This student is ready to learn!
Where the hell does THIS come from?
How often does White House maintenance do inventory on the furnishings...like rugs?
1. Did anyone else notice that the selector is set on 'single shot', rather than 'safe'?
2. What *IS* that mess on this boob's back?
3. Utilities don't have that nasty 'lived in' look. Face is hidden, possibly unsat haircut.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was ginned up here in the States as a political prop.
Nope, didn't notice any of your odd points.
I did notice the gun is pointed in the face and it is a funny comeback to the article title.
Okay, this has now officially become a field experiment to determine how long it takes to beat the dead horse into a grease spot in the road.
