Mary was on the VP's staff during the first term. She worked closely with and admires him, and knows how he must have felt after the incident. She does a very good job giving the time line, makes it personal with who was called and notified in the Whittington family. When she unloaded on David and Maureen it was something to see!

She is still close to him and often acts as an unoffiial spokesman for him. She was also with him when he came out of the interview with Brit Hume.
