Able Danger Transcript: Curt Weldon Interview on the Tony Snow Radio Show, 2/17/2006

No you're right Tony, and the significance here is that the FBI Director back then, Louis Freeh said in October of last year on national television, that if he had had the Able Danger information the FBI might well have been able to stop the hijacking. In our hearing past week, and we had both classified and unclassified, we had five people that testified under oath that they believed the same thing. That if the data they collected, that if the analysis they did had been able to be passed to the FBI, they agree with Louis Freeh, that would have been able to prevent 9-11 from ever happening. They also information that they had a hit on the attack on the USS Cole two weeks before the Cole was attacked. Two days before the attack on the Cole the information they had was specific to the port of Aiden in Yemen. So this technology and this technique is very effective. It's a shame that as it's going right now, we're never going to get the full truth out about Able Danger and the reason why it was ended in 2000 and the data mining operation that was supporting it is because they did a profile of Chinese proliferation and in that profiling some very well known names in American political circles surfaced. Names in both parties. Immediately the Army was told to shut down the data mining operation. And it was because the Chinese students who were doing this research on sensitive technology were basically at a couple of our universities, one of which was Stanford. And you can just guess two of the names that surfaced that were tied in with Stanford where these students were in fact doing their work.

This story seems to be going nowhere. Even CSPAN wouldn't broadcast the hearing (although someone posted that they did broadcast it around 3 a.m. Friday/Saturday)

Even the major 'conservative' talk shows seemed to avoid it or just give it cursory mention.

Snow spent the first 10 minutes of his radio Friday on a Cheney shooting parody. Ironically, when he went to the phones, the first 2 callers chastised him for spending time beating that dead-horse story instead of covering more 'real' news, such as Able Danger.

The Clintons have a contender for Weldon's House seat. If they can defeat Weldon, they know they can bury this story. Weldon seems to be the only major one pursuing it. Even all those Reps who signed his letter asking for the hearings didn't bother to attend the hearings.

It must get tiring to know you have spent so much time and effort to do something to protect the public only to find out they really don't give a damn. The people want to hear about how the White House failed to connect the dots, not stories about how they actually did...oh, and stories about movie stars of course.

Weldon walks on ground he is not supposed to. The China stuff would be enough given the right backing to put Slicko and many others on his staff before a firing squad for starters. It appears one cannot seperate the two issues, all the China stuff as your links show, the reason the AD project got canned, due to the two happening basically in concurrent form. A truely through all inclusive investigation would have to place Slicko and his sickos on the dock for treason. GWB and others do not want him charged with treason and hung.

I find it hard to believe Able Danger would have been shut down during a Clinton Administration for bringing in Condi Rice. However, IIRC, from another discussion here at FR on this subject, there was another Rice as Stanford at the time who did have close ties to the Democrats and Clinton.
