Done under the radar??? The exact same policy and procedures were done in this case as every other case where a foreign entity wants to do business in the US. When was the last time you were privy to such proceedings?

If you'll 'look into' how security has changed in our ports since 9/11 you'd know we 'did' learn a lesson.

Are you brain damaged?

The parties involved in this contract aren't responsible for cargo inspection or release.

Terrorism via Marine Container is not impacted one way or the other (that is, the threat is not lessoned or worsened) by who is running the Marine Terminal.

In fact, if your operation relied upon your cargo going to a specific terminal, the complexities have gone up dramatically because, guess what?

UAE DOENS'T OPERATE OCEAN VESSELS. How do you think the stuff gets here? On Asian or European - owned Vessels, that cargo can't be placed on those vesssels overseas unless US Customs gives the ok.

Who runs the yard here is irrelevent.

You are correct about that, but it would take a great number of small attacks over a fairly long period of time

But looking over the photos of the Texas City disaster does not give me a good feeling. I look at the industrial accidents we have here and realize how easy it would be to "recreate" the accident.

Quite frankly I do not find it funny at all. I peruse this site to 'gain' information, not have to beg people who are misinformed to do some research. This is the most misinformed thread I have ever read.

This deal seems to have been done largely under the radar, which the American people simply won't stand for after 9/11

Please it was well known in the business world. There was no crony deal, it was a run of the mill business acquisition.

Dubai port operator sails off with P&O

The contract between the port operator and the Port Authority is a local matter. The Port Authority can cancel the contract (likely with penalties).

Nice to know that Weiner and Schumer are playing catch-up on this issue. Here, scroll down a little - http://marklevinfan.com/

Schumer and Hillary were slow to respond, when they did they were tepid, now they are supposedly leading the charge.

The anti-smoking ones are more mis-informed. Everybody that says boo to them is a "nazi."

Did he smuggle them out (I know the details, just being factious), or bury sarin gas in gallon milk containers in the desert? Or store them on a garage shelf somewhere?

For anyone interested. Perhaps it's time to reread "Taipan" and other novels of that period by Clavell. Most of the characters and co.s are based on actual historical figures. They are capable of being identified by old shipping hands, inasmuch as they are only thinly disguised, and are still in existance today.

I'm not sure, but I think the officers of P&O lines are still allowed/required (?)to wear swords as part of their uniform.

Wanting to do business and having the control over 6 ports is two diffeentthings entirely.

The "business world" also favors the slave labor you so forcefully advocate for here. Business should have a major say in things, but not the final say when it comes to these issues.

It has an auora of corruption in how it was approved and pushed in the dark of night.

Hmmmm... just like CAFTA. I can't believe all this is happening in the span of a couple of years.

Why do you think there are no American companies of stature in this biz? Or are there?

The Texas City disaster was the result of a '20's cargo ship that had no safety standards from a crew level on down to equipment.

The chemical plant that caused the chain reaction was also poorly designed and had very little safety measures in place.

By all the modern standards and precautionary procedures that have become mandatory, Texas City would not have happened in this day and age.

Comparing the cargo ships of today to the ones from that era, are like comparing lazers to candles.

Probably taxed out of the market and IMO if Halliburton had the contract he would be screaming 100 times louder.

Think about a management company hired to manage a parcel of real estate. They control everything, hiring, firing, paying bills, nearly everything. The same seems to be the case here, athough I could be wrong.

Again, right after 9/1 could you imgine this nonsense going on today? Its not only this issue - the border???
After 9/11 is there any excuse for not throwing te illegals out and closing the border?
