Which is directly related to this issue.. because no matter who the players are..

I see this as mainly a case of public perception exploited by a few Democrats to aid the unions, hurt the administration, and maybe sell some equipment. Then again, I don't particularly like the perception either...but I think there are bigger fish to fry.

The Gamma-Ray device Customs uses is called VACIS.

Here is the website of the vendor:

Here is an article on US Customs' own site from 2000 stating they're using these things.

The worlds supply of all nuclear weapons material is strictly accounted for.

With the uranium out of Iraq and Libya...I am happier. Then again, I am not as worried about a nuclear bomb or even a dirty bomb. You can do some equally nasty things with off the shelf items. Nuclear just has a better ring to it...but it does deflect attention from what needs to be done...like going after those that would use these off the shelf items.

Well, I can say that...but it isn't very truthful. :)

People who believe misinformation are responsible for their own ignorance.

Huh? Bush brought Meirs on all by himself. Thank heavens the thing unfolded as it did.

This is the same thing. It has an auora of corruption in how it was approved and pushed in the dark of night.

Regulator:

You're 100% wrong.

Port operators have ZERO authority. Port operators are subordinate to the US Federal Gov't (via CBP, USDA, FDA) and to the Ocean Carrier who issued the Bill of Lading.

Port operators have NOTHING to do with cargo release, cargo inspection, cargo commmodities, cargo security (as these items to this context).

The Fed Gov't, and the issuier of the Bill of Lading control every aspect about cargo release.

So, where you get your information from is a complete mystery because that's not the how the world is operating.

Here again, any WMDs (mostly Bio/Chem types)that Terrorists may get hold of are also heavily accounted for, other than those that Saddam smuggled into Syria before the war started. Those are not easy to move out of the immediate region however, because of the difficulty of transporting such devices.

In addition to that, most Bio/Chem devices have a short useful life and are more dangerous to any one stupid enough to try to conceal one. They would most likely wind up being the only casualty.

"Control over the facilities is changing."

Control over what facility? Do you even know who is in control of a port? Do yourself a favor and read post 420. Then tell me how control over a port is going to change just because an existing company doing business there is sold to another company.

You don't really need WMDs to do some majorly bad things though.

Isn't this ignorance funny?

Ok, everybody.. there are three requirements that must be met in order for a consignee to get a hold of his import cargo.

1 - That the cargo was manifested to US Customs, a declaration was made, duty paid, and US Customs places a "Release" on the Shipment (Code 1C btw if memory serves) or a Bond issued (usually 1J)

2 - That there are no Regulatory Agency holds (Customs can place an inspection hold, so can USDA and the FDA) that are not clear

3 - That the Ocean Carrier has given the so-called "Steamship Release". This means the consignee received the Ocean Bill of Lading that the Ship Line gave to the Shipper. The Shipper signs it and mails the paper Bill of lading across Earth to the Consignee. The Consignee then must give this same sheet of paper back to the steamship. This certifies there is no dispute between shipper and consignee.

And the 2nd requirement for Steamship Release is that any money owed to the Line on the cargo is paid.

Once all those things are done. US Customs and the Shipping Line contact the Port Operator and tell him its ok for that container to go.

And all the Port Operator does then is slow down the trucker because they buried the container 5 stacks deep.

Idiots (you people)

Look prior to 9/11, how many people would have imagined a terrorist attack like we had?

We should learn from our mistakes. This deal seems to have been done largely under the radar, which the American people simply won't stand for after 9/11.

You are correct about that, but it would take a great number of small attacks over a fairly long period of time, much like the nature of those in Iraq, to have any significant casualty effect, on that level.

The only problem with that is, the general public will eventually get tired of it and begin to fight back. This is why we have not been attacked here since 9/11.

Up to now, the terrorists are targeting innocent vulnerable people who they know, won't fight back or who may litteraly hunt them down like dogs.

The Terrorists really do not have any solid plan that will be able to penetrate our security. They are still too primitive and they stand out like a sore thumb
