"FReepers are not using their common sense on this, and giving the Democrats a phony issue for November."

Again:

Tom Coburn is a Democrat? When did he switch parties?

I agree with you. What is wrong with some people who don't see this sell as a national security risk. If something happens after the UAE have control of the 6 ports, these same people will blame Bush for selling the ports to the UAE.

"it just never occurred to me that there would be any kind of problem like this."

With the uproar over COSCO and Long Beach, and with the more recent uproar over China attempting to buy Unocal, I just don't know why it wouldn't occur to anybody that there would be problems with this. Why were people upset then? Perceived security risks. Why are they upset now? Perceived security risks.

The ports are not being sold. That's been mentioned over and over.

Apparently, that little factoid doesn't matter, when one needs an issue to use to beat up on the President.

I guess when he stopped reading. The facts here are clear, yet some of you choose to ignore them.

Her supposed UAE link to 9-11 is beyond weak. So Al Qaeda used some banks to launder money in the UAE. Big deal! They used US banks for the same purpose! That doesn't mean the govt. sanctioned it. And her claim that 9-11 was planned in the UAE is just dead wrong. I've studied and read on the planning for 9-11 and never once came across any information that the attacks were planned in the UAE or even any connection within the UAE to the attacks. Indeed, the attacks were planned in Malaysia at an Al Qaeda summit in 1999 or 2000.

. . . operational details of security at the ports must be shared with the company operating the facilities - and that management chain would lead right back to the UAE.

All U.S. ports are being fitted with equiopment to scan containers for radiological, biological, and chemical agents. I didn't need a high-level security clearance to learn that . . . there's actually nothing secret about it.

If you think a port terminal operator is going to have any better access to the specifications of this equipment than you and I would, then you are wrong.

Who are you kidding? The ports are being sold on Monday to a company from UAE. I invite anyone to check it out on the internet. What are Cavuto and Dobbs lying too?

"FReepers are not using their common sense on this, and giving the Democrats a phony issue for November."

You give us FReepers far too much credit, as far as the creation of this issue. The credit belongs elsewhere, I do believe.

You could be right. Afterall when the US ramped up all the regulations on US registered ships after WWII its not like they all switched their registration to Liberia or anything. And what with declining teamster power due to containerization, we need to do something to assure our ports remain as inefficient as the Dims regulated them to in their post WWII hey day.

I wish I had a nickle for every minute I've wasted in airports. Now there's an industry that could use some streamlining.

If the arabs really want to do us a favor they'll take over operation of SFO, Dallas/Fort Worth & JFK.

Malkin is not a Bush Hater. But, she is not perfect either. We all make mistakes. This time, she went off half-cocked. I hope she does more research and retracts.

"It is hard to be on the side of the country that supplied the cretin's that took the towers down, we all know they speak with forked tongue."

I've never seen any indication that either the people or govt. of the UAE had anything to do with 9-11. The claim that UAE banks were used by Al Qaeda to launder money is hardly damning. They used US and European banks as well. That hardly means the people and govts. of those nations were in on the conspiracy.

I'm disappointed in the way Savage seemed to subordinate himself to that scumbag, as if he was starstruck or something.

That's why he rarely gives interviews -- he almost always emerges looking like a kiss-ass. Savage constantly expresses his disdain for "men in grey suits," but when he's confronted with one he invariably assumes the submissive role.

He's entertaining and I often agree with his sentiments, but he's weak.

This is why the so-called "conservative media" is rapidly following CBS and the New York Times into oblivion.

Shh, keep it down. There's a cadre of Fox News devotees who will have your head for that. ;)

its not just the Dems, the Dems are simply taking a free ride on this issue. Its King and COburn and others.

don't blame me because the white house is politically tone deaf. someone should have picked up the phone on wednesday when King notified them, and called Treasury, and told them to CANCEL THIS DEAL.
