ISLAMABAD: Former US president Bill Clinton on Friday condemned the publication of Prophet Muhammads (PBUH) caricatures by European newspapers and urged countries concerned to convict the publishers.
Talking to reporters after meeting Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in Islamabad, Clinton said he disagreed with the caricatures and that the publication was against religious and ethical norms. Clinton said he had no objection to peaceful demonstrations being held worldwide, but this was not the time for violence. He said it was the time to promote inter-faith harmony and stand together on the issue.
He said the peoples religious convictions should be respected at all costs and the media should be disallowed to play with the religious sentiments of other faiths. He said the media could criticise any issue including governments and people, but nobody had the right to play with the sentiments of other faiths.
Clinton said people in the US had also condemned the publication and were deeply concerned over it. He said they respected Islam, as it was the fastest growing religion in the US. Clinton also called on President Pervez Musharraf and both men discussed the India-Pakistan peace process and Afghanistans peace and stabilisation process.
Musharraf underlined the centrality of the Kashmir issue in the Indo-Pak peace process and the importance of moving towards the conflict resolution stage. Clinton praised Musharrafs efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. Musharraf thanked Clinton for the support extended to the Pakistani government by the Clinton Foundation for the HIV/AIDS programme. He also expressed the gratitude of Pakistanis to the relief and reconstruction assistance provided for the earthquake victims by the US.
Earlier, Aziz told Clinton that Pakistan was working towards peace and stability in the region through a strong economy, effective diplomacy, credible defence and promotion of inter-faith harmony. He said Pakistan was also making efforts to ensure peace in the region by settling disputes in an amicable way. He said Islam was a religion of peace and Muslims had been hurt by the publication of the caricatures, which reflected the ignorance and insensitivity of the western media. Clinton praised the role played by Musharraf and Aziz in achieving a high degree economic growth and wide-ranging structural reforms besides pursuing peace in the region and across the globe.
Anything to grab the spotlight. Vintage Bubba.
But, I have figured out he is a total fool and scoundrel and one whom this country will pay dearly for, for many years to come.
major suck-up-to-the-enemy alert.
Very well put!!!!!
Hm..yeah...I didn't hear Hairball or any of them talk about Clinton going to a foreign country and espousing CENSORSHIP!!
Peach...when I saw the headline...I thought it was Scrappleface..
ARGGGGGGGGHH....he is over there saying who knows what in private to the very people that BUSH is trying so hard to help him with HIS agenda...and HIS agenda sure doesn't call for CONVICTING newspaper publishers for CARTOONS!!!
The Israeli Defense Forces best demonstrates appropriate respect for Islam when they kill terrorists.
It also show how he would have handled 9/11 if he had been president
WTF?!?!???
Convict them of what? There has to be a crime. Clinton, an EFFING LAWYER, ought to know that. He should be completely disbarred, not just from practicing in front of the Supreme Court.
You don't believe that Clinton would say that???
If what you say is true..
Then we can expect in an AMERICAN newspaper, for Clinton to refute what this article says in VERY strong language, right?
We will see...
I'm gonna hold my fire until I see this quote in a real, Western news outlet.
Yep, over here, over there, count on Klinton to spread it everywhere.
Your post caused me to have a slight epiphany, now when I have to evacuate digested food, I'll simply say, excuse me, but I gotta take a ragin' Klinton.
Maybe I should get in the bullshit business, it seems to have paid off well for Klinton.
Hey, late night cable commercials, combined with audio cassettes, a dvd, and of course a free website, and a really good sounding multi-level marketing scheme...err..plan, and you too can be in the bullshit business.
I'm rich already, thanks clintonh8r. Oh, don't forget to send 59.95 for shipping and handling, the rest of the bullshit is free.
He wants to torture the cartoonists.
Ahh, but the delicious irony is that he is in a prison of sorts, a prison from which he shall never escape.
You see, he is tormented by his past, his impeachment, his early life, and the fact that he is aging, and irrelevant.
Frankly I'm surprised Clinton is urging conviction. (Note he doesn't afford them the luxury of a trial, just moved straight to conviction.)
A Clinton's usual rememdy is to just have them shot in the head.
If that cigar in the pic you posted was given to you by Clinton, I do hope you aren't going to smoke that thing?

Don't forget the best part, that which preceeds that line. "Sentence first! Trial later!"
