Uproar over U.S. ports (excellent editorial)
The Washington Times ^ | 2/17/2006 | Staff

Posted on 02/17/2006 6:15:19 AM PST by Dark Skies

The White House is obviously not listening to the congressional uproar over Dubai Ports World. Lawmakers want to know why a federal panel allowed a state-owned United Arab Emirates shipping firm to pay $6.8 billion to acquire six major American ports -- including critical ones in New York, Baltimore and Philadelphia -- despite its home country's glaring ties to international terrorism. But the White House is yawning.

He's full of sh!t.

The company would be apprised of all DHS protocols at its own facilities, not "all protocols."

You can pick up a copy of almost any issue of the Journal of Commerce these days, and there's a good chance you'll find an article about these "protocols." Cargo inspections at these port facilities are not carried out under a shroud of secrecy. They are done at ports all over the place, and often involve people from all points along a supply chain regardless of their citizenship, national origin, etc.

When it comes to port security, I am far more concerned about the landside staff and trucking operators than anyone else. Spending $6.8 billion to buy a terminal operator and shipping company isn't necessary to ship dangerous cargo into the U.S.

Hairsplitting much? We're discussing ports. They would have to be apprised of all PORT protocols. Feel better?

See post 78.

Hey errr Columbo, how long do you think it will be before al queda infiltrates this company? I'd say they already have. aq would love to have their sleeper agents working in NY, Baltimore and Philly. You put too much faith in these national security agencies and thats a mistake. Not only that the arab port company will have access to all the security protocols and eventually find work arounds.

I haven't read the comments on this thread yet because I've been busy this morning and just finished watching Mr. Whittington's statement. (What a classy, classy man).

But, I'm sure you have noticed the number of people here who just don't seem to be "real." I've said all along that several of the '04 sign on's are trolls.

I have to agree with that assessment after a conversation I had with a former secret service agent yesterday. He was saying it is a top heavy bureaucy and it is amazing that there have been no significant "events" since Hinckly incident. Troubling, to say the least.

Is there a gigantic bribe in this somewhere? Not to the WH but elsewhere?

Do a little search on David Sandborn, and John Snow!

Then look at their connections to DP World...and the positions they hold in the Bush Administration.

Then get ready to scream!

Mark Levin had a guy, King I think was the name, last night on his show. I think he's in Congress. Anyhow, this Rep. essentially said, without naming names, that some inside-the-Beltway types were very nervous about the rising inquiry - as if King and the rest of us questioning this may have smelled blood. As I mentioned on an earlier thread, what if anything does the GOP's greatest liability, bagman Grover Norquist, Jr, have to do with this deal? Does anyone know?

I have no security clearances and don't know anyone at the Department of Homeland Security, but I could bring you out to one of these facilities within 48 hours and give you a pretty thorough assessment of what these security operations entail.

There are some staunch Freepers that are shrugging. I'm truly shocked. Let me know what you think after reading it all.

Here's another.

It is a sign that the world is ending...

Yup...I guess that "Pale Horse"'s name is SHOWBOAT!

Wasn't one of Revelations prophecies about the most dangerous place to be was between the "Pale Horse" and a Camera/microphone?

That was Peter King, the Republican Congressman from New York who voted against the articles of impeachment against Bill Clinton in 1998 -- in exchange for an appointment to some kind of U.S. delegation involving the peace accords in Northern Ireland.

I never take anything at "face value" but if you want to, it's your right. The point is, the arabs would be told everything beyond what is visible on the surface.

And Bush wonders why his poll numbers are down. Clinton and China deals, Bush and this deal. Same same.

When something looks this stupid either people really a being this stupid or something else is going on. Follow the money on the one and you will find out which it is.
