TIME TRAVEL

ARE YOU READY? The Canteen is about to embark on another journey back in time.

If you're brave enough, climb aboard, no ticket required……we're about to take off.

Come on, hop in, watch your step ...... Let me set my control.

Buckle up. Now don't be afraid....I know how to fly this thing.......Hang on. Here we goooooooooo.......

WHOOOOOOSHHHHHHHH

Landing with a small thump, thump, thump. Now, wasn’t that better.

Let’s turn on the television and see what is on.

Do any of you remember these shows?

Beverly Hillbillies

9/26/1962 - 9/7/1971 - CBS

Black & White/Color – 30 minutes

274 episodes (106 B&W, 168 C)

Beverly Hillbillies Cast

Irene Ryan as Granny Daisy May Moses

Donna Douglas as Elly May Clampett

Max Baer Jr. as Jethro Bodine/Jethrene Bodine

Raymond Bailey as Milburn Drysdale

Nancy Kulp as Miss Jane Hathaway, Drysdale's Secretary

Harriet E. MacGibbon as Mrs. Margaret Drysdale (1962-1969)

Bea Benaderet as Cousin Pearl Bodine (1962-1963)

Beverly Hillbillies Theme Song

"The Ballad of Jed Clampett" by Lester Flatt and Earl Scuggs

Beverly Hillbillies Tidbits

"Come and listen to a story about a man named Jed

A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,

Then one day he was shootin at some food,

And up through the ground came a bubblin crude.

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea."

Poor but wise Jed Clampett (Buddy Ebsen) got rich quick. He originally got $25 million but by the last season the Clampett fortune had swelled to $95 million. So he moved his family from Sibley in the Ozarks to Beverly Hills. To 518 Crestview Drive, to be precise, a 32 room, 14 bath mansion.

This didn't sit well with society maven, Mrs. Drydale (Harriet E. MacGibbon) who lived next door as the Clampett's were as crude as their oil.

The Beverly Hillbillies became an instant hit and ranked #1 in the ratings for the 1962-1963 and 1963-1964 seasons.

Max Baer Jr. is the son of the heavyweight boxing champ, Max Baer.

Passings

Bea Benaderet died in 1968 of left lung carcinoma, Irene Ryan died in 1973 of a stroke, Raymond Bailey in 1980 of a heart attack, Harriet E. MacGibbon in 1987 of pulmonary & cardiac failure, and Nancy Culp in 1991 of cancer.

Brady Bunch

9/26/1969 - 8/30/1974 - ABC

Color – 30 minutes

117 episodes

Brady Bunch Cast

Robert Reed as Mike Brady

Florence Henderson as Carol Brady

Barry Williams as Greg Brady

Maureen McCormick as Marcia Brady

Christopher Knight as Peter Brady

Eve Plumb as Jan Brady

Mike Lookinland as Bobby Brady

Susan Olsen as Cindy Brady

Ann B. Davis as Alice Nelson

Allan Melvin as Sam Franklin

Robbie Rist as Cousin Oliver (1974)

Brady Bunch Theme Song

"The Brady Bunch" by Frank DeVol and Sherwood Schwartz

Sung by the Peppermint Trolley Company 1st season, then the Brady Kids

Here's the story of a lovely lady

Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.

All of them had hair of gold, like their mother

The youngest one in curls.

Here's the story, of a man named Brady,

Who was busy with three boys of his own,

They were four men, living all together,

Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow

And they knew it was much more than a hunch,

That this group would somehow form a family.

That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch.

The Brady Bunch, That's the way we all became the Brady Bunch. The Brady Bunch.

Brady Bunch Tidbits

Let's dispense with the bad news first. Yes, Robert Reed was gay and yes, he resisted kissing Florence Henderson. He made very unkind remarks about the Brady Bunch, saying it embarrassed him. He frequently walked off the set after arguments with producer Sherwood Schwartz.

None of which changes the fact they we all loved the Brady Bunch. We either wanted to be adopted into the family, or at least get to go play at the oh, so familiar, four bedroom, two bathroom house in Los Angeles.

Nor can any post mortem revelations alter the fact that the Brady Bunch spawned as many spinoffs as Star Trek. Not to mention the movies.

The story is well known. Most of us can sing the theme song from memory and that pretty much says it all. Mike Brady (Robert Reed) was an architect widower with 3 boys and Carol Brady (Florence Henderson) was in the same situation but with 3 girls. True love grew, and "that's the way we became the Brady Bunch."

Address: 4222 Clinton Avenue

Dog's name: Tiger

Schools:

Clinton Elementary

Filmore Jr. High

Westdale Sr. High (Bears)

Marcia belonged to: Sunflower Girls scout troop

Greg belonged to: Frontier Scouts

Peter belonged to: Treehouse Club

At the start, the kids ranged from 7 to 14. But they quickly blossomed. Greg (Barry Williams) was a teen idol and who can forget, Marcia, Marcia Marcia. There are grown men who still harbor a crush on Maureen McCormick.

So for fun, want to now how old the Brady kids are today? Here are their birth years: Barry Williams (1954), Maureen McCormick (1956), Christopher Knight (1957), Eve Plumb (1958), Mike Lookinland (1960) and Susan Olsen (1961).

Passings

Only Robert Reed who died in 1992 of intestinal cancer is gone.

That's the end of the ride for today. Please watch your step on exiting the time machine. Now that I've shown you a few, how about you share something from your memory. Or, if one of these were your favorite show then, share a memory of the best episode for you.

Final note: All information found freely on the Internet…..especially here

Footnote: Management is not responsible for the accuarcy of historical events. Pay no attention to the man and “his voices” trying to sell burkas. Pay no attention to the guy running naked in the Canteen. Removal of tagline is punishable by forcing one to buy a burka from Burkaman.

Breyer's is what is served in major, high-priced restaurants. Another secret is that the coffee served in these types of restaurants is Breyer's.

I'll try looking on the internet. Maybe, I could get lucky and find it. I knew they had a secret. I kept thinking maybe it was the coffee makers they use.

LOL...just a strange Coloradoan who loves snow, and isn't getting enough of it this year. :)

"Wind chill advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am cst Friday, A wind chill advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am cst Friday. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will combine with bitter arctic air to create wind chill readings of minus 28 to minus 38 late tonight. A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

Just thought medicine truss, via our local daily forecast.....
