New York -- For days, the White House news corps has pounded the Bush administration, demanding to learn more about Vice President Dick Cheney's accidental shooting of a hunting companion Saturday.
Cheney finally addressed the incident Wednesday, but the forum in which he chose to do so -- in an exclusive interview with Fox News host Brit Hume -- quickly became another source of contention.

It was unfortunate that Dick Cheney had to go and shoot a lawyer. Really.
He gets a lot of criticism for waiting several hours to tell the public about it.
I wonder how it would be if he were a Democrat, would he have spoken up any quicker?
This items looks at that possibility.

The Secret Service called the local sheriff and he was on the scene first..Then the local paper was notified..From what i understand..Please do not read anything that the MSm has put out there..they are so wrong on this and want to nail the White House and VP Chaney to the wall..Just a bunch of dumb bells..here is something a poster put up yesterday if it helps..
on a Yahoo Newsgroup regarding the Cheney shooting accident

As a person living in S. Texas very close to the ranch where the accident happened, I'm amazed at the drivel posted by folks that know nothing about what happened on the Anderson's ranch.
The media is just pissed off that our hometown paper was the first to break the story. Go to www.caller.com and read the stories filed on the paper's website.
You will find that "Willeford, an experienced hunter, described the shooting as it appears in the report. She said Whittington and Cheney were walking beside her when Whittington stopped to search for the downed quail.
"The vice president and I hesitated and then walked on," she said. "Unbeknownst to both of us, Harry had caught up with us on the right."
That's when another covey flushed, Cheney fired and struck Whittington, she said.
"He's very experienced, very safe," the ambassador said of Cheney, whom she has hunted with before. "It's a very unfortunate accident."
An investigation by the Kenedy County Sheriff's Department is ongoing and the report will not be released until it is complete, likely in several days, sheriff's officials said.
Kenedy County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Gilberto San Miguel Jr. spent most of Monday in Corpus Christi interviewing witnesses and visiting Whittington.
Sheriff Ramon Salinas said he received a call from Secret Service officials 10 minutes after the shooting Saturday. Sheriff's officials interviewed Cheney on Sunday morning at the ranch. "
Frankly, it seems to me that the TV media is bent out of shape because they weren't called before the Sheriff.
Whittington erred in not letting the group know he had returned to the firing line. Cheney erred in firing too quickly. Other than that, it's just another incident that will go down with Carter's Attack Rabbit, and various predidential golf shots popping folks in the head.
As to the heart attack, the pellet "migrated" to the heart, which I assume meant that it was carried there from beneath the skin where it originally lodged.

Sorry to hear about your neighborhood going bad like that. And with such a nice situation. :-(
We shoulda've started putting them into straight-jackets since the '60s.
Hope your current place is nicer than the one before.

If I understand the criticism correctly, the requirement was that Cheney immediately notify the national press of a private accident for some reason they haven't actually detailed yet, and now that he's given an interview the problem is that it was in front of an insufficiently hostile audience. It's an interesting set of rules, and what is even more interesting is that the people proclaiming them appear to believe that they're real.
This is exquisite. Ask any one of these spittle-throwing hysterics "so how's ol' Harry doing, anyhow?" and you'll get a confused look. "It isn't about Harry. It's all about Me."

Noonan has no sources close to the admin. She's still in a snit because she wasn't hired as a speechwriter after leaving her job (her choice) to work the campaign, under the illusion she was "needed" and got a lesser position in the campaign then she thought she'd receive as consequence.
Actually, it's not unlike the snit the MSM is in because they weren't chosen vessels to relay this news. Both were shut out, and both live to make the administration's life hell because of it while in the process failing to realize it is their own reputations taking the hit.

You really believe this about Peggy Noonan?
I would believe it for a second unless she spoke it on tape or publicly in some kind of TV debate.

They DO have the biggest audience.
I'm loving watching the meltdown of the MSM.

After the hit pieces she wrote after Bush's InAugural Address and what she has written since?
Yes, I believe it.
Go look at her pieces Before and After election. Markedly different. She thought she could get a speech writing gig, it didn't happen, and she's been out of sorts with them ever since.

The local law knew what had occurred within an hour of its happening. The collective snit-fit from the press stemmed from the fact that the PRESS was not informed until some hours later. Law enforcement has *already* conducted their investigation, days ago, clearing the VP of any wrongdoing. Snubbing the vultures of the lamestream media is *not* a crime, of any discription, and could actually be considered commendable...

This headline is wrong. "Critics" slaming Cheney are "democrat" party activists in the media. The headline and article should read "Democrat Party Activists Pretending to be Journalists, Slam Cheney". Just so we have that clear.

you are probably going to get hate-posts for even asking this but it would be nicer to see someone present a timeline post-shooting about what cheney was up to.
