Designer Julien Macdonald and heiress Paris Hilton were pelted with flour by anti-fur protesters after his show at London Fashion Week.
They were attacked by campaigners from PETA - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - after a catwalk show which featured a series of models dressed in fur.
Macdonald was covered from head to toe in flour as he posed for pictures with Hilton, who escaped with a sprinkling on her shoulder.
She had made a surprise appearance on the catwalk of Macdonald's show at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden, wearing a number of his gowns. But when the pair arrived at the Cuckoo Club in Mayfair for the aftershow party, they were attacked by animal rights campaigners who had been waiting outside.
An onlooker said: "They had just got out of their car and were posing for the cameras. All of a sudden, a woman approached from behind the cameras and emptied the flour bomb over them. Julien was covered, as was the doorman standing next to him.
"Paris was lucky and was only hit a little bit. She couldn't stop laughing. They were both bundled back into the car and driven around the block. When they arrived again five minutes later, they had cleaned themselves up."
Macdonald has previously been the target of protesters for using fur. PETA spokeswoman Yvonne Taylor said: "There is nothing ' fashionable' about the torture and death of animals killed for fur.
Julien Macdonald may have been able to ignore images of bloody skinned animals gasping for breath in the past, but hopefully a dash of flour will help him forsake fur once and for all." The woman protester who led the attack was held by door staff, who called police. But just as the police sirens came into earshot, she broke free from her captors and escaped by running down the street.
The designer's catwalk show had earlier attracted some of his celebrity fans including Dame Shirley Bassey, Tamara Beckwith, Meg Matthews, Louise Redknapp and England and Arsenal footballer Ashley Cole with his fiancée, Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy. Dame Shirley, 67, said she had flown in from Monaco especially for the show.
"He designed my gowns for the Royal Variety Show in Cardiff last year and they were just sensational," she said. "I love him. His gowns echo the Twenties and Thirties, and just melt onto the body. They are glamorous and sexy in an elegant way. He will be doing all of my dresses for my upcoming tour."
Cole, 25, admitted he would not have been at the show had it not been for Tweedy, 22. He said: "I try and dress smartly, but I don't wear expensive stuff. I usually just wear cheap shirts and jeans."

It may have been flour, it could also have been something much more noxious. By pummelling the assailant into bloody unconciousness one could turn the perp over to the cops with all the evidence intact.
Flour is not a harmless substance. It can do damage to the eyes and you certainly don't want to be breathing in a large amount.

No! Not the would be Mother Teresa!!!
Typical technique of the whacko lefties. When they can't rationally discuss issues with someone (possibly because their ideas are too far out in left field) they resort to assault and destruction of the private property of others. However, I imagine they'd be the first ones to cry for the police and demand government intervention if someone were to attack them or destroy their property.
Never thought I'd side with Paris Hilton. ;) These PETA nuts need to lay off of her.
Flour? Why those poor defenseless wheat plants.
Chemically induced logic is a wonder to behold! :-)
Does tofu satisfy the munchies? LOL!!!
I'm not a fan of Paris Hilton and the modeling complex simply nauseates me. That being said, people have a reasonable right to live as they wish. Hilton and the agency people that produce these shows are contributing to a business venture and contributory commerce climate. The fixation of fringe terrorist groups on them, is unacceptable to me.
PETA and ALF members should be placed on a watch list. If they carry out acts of assult or violence in the furtherence of a group cause, the association should be charged with RICO laws or some such until they can re-enter society comporting themselves as law abiding citizens.
I find it a real hoot that PETA could possibly think the use of the word 'ethical' in thier name would actually constitute anything other than a stupifying nonsensical joke on them.
PETA- "Live like we want you to, or else."
If two or more of these idiots planned it, that's the conspiracy charge. Maybe if a few of them did 5 years hard time they might not think it was so funny.
You're right about RICO. It's about time the FBI started throwing that one at the freaks from PETA, ALF, and ELF.

I suspect one day a PETA nut is going to get capped or beaten within an inch of his or her life. Animals have no rights. I will go so far as to say that I do not believe in jail time for "crimes" against animals no matter how inhumane. Fines only. No animal is on the level of a human.
Yeah. Funny.
Not being able to find anything to disagree with here, I'll just lumber over to another thread to see if there's anything worth disagreeing with there. LOL
