If Sen. John McCain runs for president in 2008, fellow Republican Susan Collins of Maine will serve as one of his Senate advisors.
A spokesman for Sen. Collins confirmed that McCain asked her if she would be one of his advisors if he decides to seek the White House. The spokesman, Kevin Kelley, said Collins told McCain that he would.
The Arizona senator is regarded as a likely potential candidate for the Republican nomination.

Is there no one with any cajones left in our party?Well, there is Condi...if it is cajones that you want! I'm not sure she is even a conservative, though, domestically. (She is a great gal, regardless.)

I'm in AZ and last time round McCain couldn't win the primary HERE. Last year we would have loved a primary challenger.

I think your too wound up. Try to relax a little. Have some more cool aid.,I call 'em as I see 'em. I have been following McMedia's career for 24 years. I know him beyond the media adulation, beyond the "He's a maverick, I like him-he's a navy man, he knows what war is all about" nonsense I hear from people who don't pay close attention.
As for being wound up, I have seen him act in frankly unbalanced ways on more than one occasion. I do not believe he has the emotional satbility to be the Commander in Chief.

"I'm not liking you much, though."
There are four types of people in this world.
The ones that like you for the wrong reasons.
The ones that like you for the right reasons.
The ones that don't like you for the wrong reasons.
And the ones that don't like you for the right reasons.
Of those the only one you really need to worry about is the last group. Now I don't know about you, but I don't people who can't tolerate someone who does not agree with them politically into that category.

Now that is a well reasoned and thoughtful statement for not supporting someone for president. I don't agree with you. But I respect your opinion, and the reasons for it. And thats a lot more than I can say for some of knee jerk fanatics who turn 3 shades of purple at the mention of McCain's name.

John McCain is solidly pro-life, which is my number one issue, but I can't support him for president. He is against free political speech, he is in favor of higher taxes, he never misses a chance to cut his party off at the knees, he is a media whore, and he's a little nuts.

Your last jibberish was incoherent but I think it was bashing intolerance for different political opinions (in the service of yourself and your candidate).
Let me get this straight...You are the cocky dude who chimed in here at the top of the thread with Lets see how many cool aid drinkers there are tonight?
Is it not only McCain, but all his supporters,, as well who are natural-born smart asses?

You do realize that this is entirely academic. McCain has so alienated the Republican base that he has no chance of running as a Republican. Besides, if he runs against Hillary, his beloved media will tear him to shreds, and he will most likely have an emotional meltdown at some point. (Mark my words, I've seen it!)

I really think you need to take a step back and check out a random sampling of threads on FR where McCain is the topic. The venom with which he is attacked is so over the top that it is revolting. So yea, maybe I decided to take a few shots at these fine upstanding conservatives. I have not called anyone on here a commie, a traitor, an atheist, an enemy of our country, or other even less pleasant things. So yea, about my cockiness... get back to me when you have gotten a little perspective. If I have sinned in a lack of charity then I ask pardon. But I really think there is a bit of a double standard here.

I would agree he has an uphill battle in the primary season. But McCain is extremely popular with the vast political center in this country. Love him or hate him, if you attack him too viciously in the primaries you run the risk of alienating the political center in the general election. And whatever else we may not agree on I have no desire to see a Marine Corps band playing Hail to the Chief for Hillary Clinton on Jan 20 2009. And we also agree on the number one issue. Ending abortion.
