"St. Valentines Day is a Celebration of Marriage, Not One Night Stands" Says Priest

FRONT ROYAL, Va., February 14, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International (HLI), responded to the attempt by condom manufacturers to pervert St. Valentine's Day. Reacting to "national condom week" which begins today and runs till the 21st, Fr. Euteneuer said, "The condom industry is in bed with the abortion industry to exploit a day that traditionally is a celebration of selfless love and marriage. All week at campus centers across the country, organizations that make their money killing pre-born children through abortion will be passing out condoms to students."

"National Condom Week is a shameless marketing stunt promoted by the abortion industry that targets high school and college students using the same techniques that in the past were used by Big Tobacco.

"Condoms break, tear or slip off 1 time out of 12 times, ensuring abortionists who participate in National Condom Week a steady stream of business executing abortions and dispensing medications to treat STDs.

"St Valentine was a Roman Catholic priest who continued to perform marriages even after the Emperor Claudius II had outlawed marriage in a short- sighted attempt to increase the size of his army. The faithful priest was arrested and condemned to death. Before being executed, he sent a note to a young bride where his closing words were Your Valentine.

"St. Valentine's Day is a celebration of the sacrament of marriage and not one night stands in dirty dorm rooms. Let's put the 'saint' back in St. Valentine's Day and throw the condoms out!"

Preaching makes one a caricature of one's own stereotype, if only as a self-fulfilling prophecy. He is completely right, but stating the facts can only alienate and make us look really, really old.

Achieving a state of good morals requires broad and sound policy from above, plus the willing cooperation of a culture to embrace our values.

I hate alternative culture... I hate it. But this is just plain finger-wagging.

Since when are condoms and marriage mutually exclusive?

Yeah! Speaking the truth in love is ALWAYS a good thing. This isn't a polite discussion of the abstract, this is a culture war. This is no time to fear being called a prude (finger-waving). Have to speak loud and clear like this priest is.

I can't see the logic here. Even if condoms fail 1 time out of 12, that means they still work 11 times out of 12.

From a purely statistical sense, that means that there will be less unintended pregnancies and therefore less abortions.

therefore less abortions >>

that's what they said when the birth control pill came out--no more unwanted pregnancies and no more abortions.

If used properly, the pill and the condom are quite effective. Used properly in conjunction, they're nearly perfect.

People being people, however, they don't always use them properly.
