FReeper Canteen ~ FReeper Canteen Kids Wednesday ~ Proud To Be A Military Brat! ~ 15FEB06
Serving The Best Troops In The World | The Canteen Kids

Posted on 02/14/2006 5:31:20 PM PST by MoJo2001

Hi! I'm The Sailor and MoJo's youngest son. My nickname at home is *Tibby*. You've probably seen my older brother, hotstreak, before. I'm 6 years old and currently in First Grade.

See the big guy pictured above? Do you know him who he is? If you like the NBA, you'll know it's Shaquille O'Neal.

He, hotstreak, and myself are part of a special community. We're proudly known as *military brats*. His father was in the Army while our Dad is in the Navy.

Military brat is an informal term for a child who has one or more parents who serves or served full-time in the military. It implies that such an upbringing is different in important ways from that experienced by those in the community at large, and can be an insult or a compliment, depending on the context. Although brat is usually taken to mean a spoiled child, military brats are usually considered more disciplined than their stateside peers.

Click here for a neat story about him and one of our heroes.

Well, there's a relief. No offense to any Mascoutahans that there may be on here, but of all the places I lived in those fifteen years, Mascoutah was the worst. When we got moved on base after two months, it was a huge relief to be out of that town.

We moved there in 1978 from Montgomery, Alabama. I never encountered such a backwards assed, predjudiced people in my life - it was insane there. I saw the Klan one time in our three years in Alabama, but saw them several times a month up there.

Navy Reserve Husband, many moons ago, both children born in the Navy and now have a Grandson in the Navy. No one qualifies as a Navy brat..there's always the possibility of a great grand brat!

GO NAVY!

I cannot believe how upset the idiot MSM is about a local Texas paper getting the scoop on them, who are insisting the the White House, et al do their work for them.

Band Of Brothers

Read:
Colossians 1:24-29

I . . . fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ. —Colossians 1:24

Bible In One Year: Leviticus 17-18; Matthew 27:27-50

cover Of all Shakespeare's great plays, Henry V may rank as the most heroic. In one stirring scene, the English army stands fearfully before superior French troops. King Henry challenges his men to take heart. Because the battle will be fought on "the feast of Crispian," their victory will be remembered in its yearly celebration. The king tells his men, "This day is called the feast of Crispian . . . . We in it shall be remembered; we few, we happy few, we band of brothers."

Today, the US Marine Corps refers to itself as a "band of brothers." There is something about interdependence and personal sacrifice while under fire that binds people together for life.

Christians facing opposition can also have such a bond. Paul wrote, "I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ" (Colossians 1:24).

Did Paul believe Christ's suffering on the cross was insufficient? No, His atonement was completely adequate for all our sin. What Paul meant was that as we complete Christ's work on earth amid painful opposition, we share in His sufferings. Jesus suffered for obeying the will of God, and so must we. But like Paul, we can find joy as we draw closer to our Lord and our band of brothers and sisters. —Dennis Fisher

Oh, how we need support in times
Of suffering and despair—
Upheld with love by saints of God
Who understand and care. —D. De Haan

Suffering can be a magnet that draws the Christian close to Christ and fellow Christians.
