Geez, they threw everything at him but Iran Contra. Why didn't they just headline the piece "Cheney is a murderous bastard"?

As I have told FReepers on two other threads, this is a brand new law in Texas. It was passed in 2005 and we have never needed one before. Unless hunting is your business or you do a good bit of it, I suspect many do not even know they need this stamp.

"You're totally ducking and weaving here. We don't care if some ranch owner called the local paper," NBC's David Gregory said.

"David, hold on, the cameras aren't on right now. You can do this later," McClellan shot back.

Good one, Scott! Keep it up. David Gregory is such an unbelievable major league a-s-h-le.

Headline, front page, above the fold: "The murderous Cheney fails to buy $ 7 stamp!"

Page 23a, next to the want ads: "Krakatoa explodes again. Civilization endangered."

Baznet's another city boy pontificating on matters he doesn't understand. Cheney had a license. He did not have a quail stamp. This ain't rocket science.

I'm just glad he didn't shoot a Mexican.

IIRC hearing correctly, the quail stamp was just made a requirement very recently.

Perhaps even since the first of the year. At any rate, the Veep was giving a warning about it from Fish and Game. The warning carried no penalties, fines etc.

IOW, big whoop.

It's a new requirement that's only been in effect since September. I bet there's lots of hunters in Texas who don't know about it.

A Canadian friend was at the gym today and said "What do you think? I don't even like Dick Cheney but I think this hysteria over his shooting another hunter accidentally is absolutely ridiculous. What is wrong with the media? (She didn't have all day to listen). Why aren't they reporting the really important news? They are all fools".

As a little old grandmother who doesn't hunt, even I know one does not walk in front of, around or behind a hunter holding a shotgun which sprays shot! Too bad the White House press corps wasn't tagging along. Their sitting days would be over for quite a while!

- Senator Kennedy's driver's license had expired on February 22, 1969 (nearly 5 months before the accident at Chappaquiddick) and had not been renewed.
- Although driving with an expired license was only a misdemeanor, it did provide the evidence of negligence needed to prove a manslaughter charge in the death of Mary Jo Kopechne.
- The license problem was "fixed" by officials at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, under the direction of Registrar Richard McLaughlin, before the legal proceedings began.

the veep's office revealed he didn't even have the proper $7 stamp on his hunting license to shoot quail in Texas.

Cheney didn't shoot any quail. He shot a lawyer, and everyone knows you don't need a $7.00 license stamp to shoot them.

What about the law? Why wasn't Cheney issued a ticket? One of my friends forgot to buy his state waterfowl stamp and the game warden wrote him a ticket for $67.00 plus points off his license. I expect Cheney to follow the same laws as the rest of us. No exceptions.

Did they mention how the press hounded Cheney in 2000 to sell his Halliburton stock due to conflict of interest, and then complained about the suspicious timing of his profits from higher stock prices when he sold?

But -- Cheney didn't shoot a quail. He shot a lawyer.

Aren't lawyers always in season?

That's ok! The Swimmer didn't have a valid driver's license and he didn't use a condom on MJK before he killed her.

Another reporter dryly asked if it was now standard White House policy to release information through private citizens.

Well, since it had NOTHING to do with the workings of the White House, the way it was released to to the press shouldn't matter. But of course it does to the DC Dilletante press!
