So far as I can see the only thing he's really in "trouble" for is not telling some people in the press what happened the way they say he should have. In that regard he is not in any trouble at all. He does not owe them any explanation. Now, if it was Cheney that was shot that would be a different matter.
My goodness folks, he accidently shot someone with some bird shot. What's the big deal?
