The US committed "terrible atrocities" against Arabs after the September 11 attacks, according to Al Gore, President George W Bush's defeated rival for the White House in 2000.
Arabs had been "indiscriminately rounded up", often on minor charges, and held in "unforgiveable conditions", the former vice-president told a mainly Saudi audience at the Jeddah Economic Forum.
"Unfortunately there have been terrible abuses and it's wrong," he said. "I want you to know that it does not represent the desires or wishes or feelings of the majority of the citizens of my country."
Mr Gore said the Bush administration was playing into al-Qa'eda's hands by routinely blocking visas for Saudis but he also challenged Arabs to take a stronger stand against Iran's nuclear plans.
More than 1,000 non-Americans were detained on immigration charges and thousands more interviewed after 9/11. Officials deny they were held in poor conditions.
Six months after the attacks, the FBI was conducting about 325 investigations into suspected "hate crimes" against Arab or Muslim people.

Al Gore Acts a Fool

I know it's hard to believe, but it's true.
Apparently, he's in support of unfettered access to visas and the sloppy immigration regulation that allowed the 9/11 hijackers into our country to live among us and train to kill us. To each his own, I guess.
Gore calls the U.S.'s treatment of Arabs in the time after 9/11 "unforgivable," without citing any evidence. Bulldog Pundit offers perspective:
First things first. I want Gore to come up with some proof of these "unforgivable conditions". Second, what Gore calls "minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order", other people call violating immigration laws. Quite simply, those that overstay visas and don't have their green cards in order are criminals violating the laws of this country. And when 15 of the 19 hijackers come from Saudi Arabia (some of whom if I recall, were in violation of immigration laws), can the Bush administration really be faulted for actually enforcing the immigration law (something they should be doing more often, even today).

I usually don't want to comment on the Gore or Carter posts. I am holding out hope that if we just ignore them they will go away! But alas these two nitwits who didn't contribute anything of substance while in office; are going to forevermore haunt us with their liberal, race baiting, terrorist hugging diatribe. I would have thought that Gore would be living with his friends in China by now. On the upside...I enjoy the increasingly horrible way that his inner ugliness is seeping out of his pores...he looks ghastly!
