News Advisory:
What: Grandmothers, heartbroken and enraged over the enormous loss of life and the terrible injuries in Iraq, plan to enlist in the military. The old make wars and the young die in them; on Valentine's Day, grandmothers and others will demonstrate their love for this country and its young people by enlisting in the U.S. military in place of young people. The grandmothers vehemently oppose this war; their enlistment is not a show of support for military action in Iraq. But if someone must die, let it be the old, not the young. Too many have died. Too many have been maimed. Enough. Grannies say, "End the war now."
When: Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, 2 p.m.
Where: Armed Forces Recruiting Center, 8202 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD
Who: PeaceAction Montgomery has organized this event, in conjunction with Code Pink and Raging Grannies in 12 cities across the U.S. PeaceAction Montgomery is a county-based chapter of Peace Action, the nation's oldest and largest grassroots peace organization. See http:/www.PeaceActionMC.org.

Gonna have to be some pretty young grannies. Although the maximum age for a first enlistment was raised last month from 35 to 40.
Fatalities in OIF in 2005: ~800
Fatalities on US highways in 2005: ~43,000
They're sure not up on their history.
Typical liberal ward of the nanny state -- more afraid of the gun held by a law-abiding citizen that would protect her than of the knife held by a criminal who would steal, assualt, kill, or rape.
They try it all the time.
Don't you have to be accepted to enlist? Would it be more accurate to say that the Grannies are planning to attempt to enlist?
Allow them to enlist and then send them to outer Afghanistan to carry water to the troops.
The Chinese consider them to be part of the Southern Resource Zone. The Northern Resource Zone is in Russia.
I hope they get signed up by the recruiters immediately.
We need some people who can help locate and disarm IED's.
These gray-haired old bats should do the trick.
3000 American civilians dead is a lot, but hardly an enormous loss of life.
Gunny,
Did you have a relative in the Navy during the '70's?
Me too. Give them 8 weeks of KP, that ought to cool them off.
3000 dead in a few minutes is an enormous loss of life. 3000 dead over a period of years since 2003 is not so enormous. If you are trying to start an argument or take exception to what I am saying please, come right out with it so I can respond in a truely obnoxious fashion. Thanks, and have a good day:)
There are plenty of jobs these grannies can do in the military. And plenty of Marines/soldiers/sailors/airmen who will be glad to hand these jobs over to someone else.
Gimme 10 GRANNY!~}

I thought the reference to American civilians made it obvious I meant on 9/11/01. I was agreeing with you, and reminding all and sundry that we didn't start this.
It certainly would be interesting if they came and found about 10 people lined up already...people who would let legitimate recruits ahead of them in line. Standing at the end of a line is not a very good protest. And I notice that they don't even start until 2. But you'd have to cover every service.
The ST Pete paper is as Red as they get. Note that after Granny showed why the Founders wrote and signed the Second Amendment, the St Pete fish wrapper managed to find a whiner who moaned about being afraid of the gun.
A female, anti-gun whiner, too. Now, why does that not surprise me?
