Biggest concern from the press seems to be that they were scooped by a local newspaper. White House / the Right's response should be that the Left and the Media are more upset about the timing of statement and not the well being of the victim.

You know, as someone with elderly parents and in-laws, my immediate take on this wasn’t to think of him as Dick Cheney, VPOTUS; my response was as to his situation as an ordinary mortal human being - Grandpa may no long belong out in the field, quite likely he shouldn't be driving, he shouldn’t be firing up the chainsaw, and he shouldn't be hunting; his peripheral vision, his ears, his reflexes - and maybe his judgment - just aren’t up to it any more.

This sort of “mistake” is something I can understand and empathize with, but like an elderly driver who puts the car through the garage door it’s not something that should be casually overlooked – when someone of the VP’s age and medical history age starts making fundamental mistakes behind a steering wheel or a shotgun (and that’s what shooting one of your companions in this sort of situation is) it’s time to think very seriously about taking always the keys and put on the trigger locks – nobody likes to do it, but next time they might not be so lucky.

And that's what concerns me about the fact that this would not have been reported unless it was leaked - it's like discovering by finding the body-shop invoice it wasn't just parking lot fender-benders: my mother had spun her car out on the interstate and ended up in the median - this is stuff that as either individuals or citizens trying to make intelligent and informed decisions we IMO deserve to to know.

To be truthful, I myself believe the VEEP owes the American public an apology for this incident. He should hold a press conference and inform the people he is extremely sorry he shot the lawyer and thought he was shooting at "John Edwards" during the 2004 campaign. Don't you know the left would be unglued until the 2012 elections on that press release.

I've got some attorneys I would like to hunting with.

What's an 8 letter word for skeet?

Typical MSM BS.....double standard....reminds one of when Bill Clinton injured himself at Greg Norman's FL. place...MSM never questioned it one bit.

This is getting so ridiculous. brian williams was drooling over this "scandal" and it will be the lead story for the NBC news.

The liberal MSM is going moonbatty.

Also I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than drive in a car with Ted kennedy.

Yes, I understand Commissioner. The diabolical Dick Cheney aka the Joker has lured a lawyer into a trap and shot him, and now we must get to him before the evil Karl Rove covers his tracks!

Holy SH#$T Batman! We have to stop him!

Yes Robin, and stop him we will, QUICK TO THE BATMOBILE!

LOL

This is bunch of crap. The White House should say that Dick Cheney was envolved in a hunting accident and then drop it. There are hunting accidents every year here in America. When the WH keeps answering questions about this incident the stupid main stream press will keep asking. If they can't get the WH to discuss it anymore the subject is closed. The Republicans play into the Liberal presses hands and keep dumb subjects like this alive.

If I was the guy who got shot I would have those bird shot pellets on ebay right now. What the hell they cant tell one pellet from another, I would go buy a box of shells and cut them open and sell a thousand pellets.

The Vice President can use this to his advantage. The next time a reporter asks a stupid question, Cheney can invite him to go hunting.

It's the old "What did the President know, and when did he know it" routine of the Left. Brian Williams stated just about the same thing tonight when they panned to him during the Olympics. I couldn't believe I was actually hearing him say it. His statement was something like: "White House under fire because President Bush knew his V.P. had shot someone and it wasn't reported to the press right away." I almost fell off my couch I was laughing so hard.

They are pissed Cheney bypassed the "gatekeepers" of information.

Cheney can make it all right with the press. Just invite them to go shooting with him.

I actually saw a post on DU that said "And they still get on Kennedy's case for not reporting his accident for 8 hours... they waited nearly 24 hours!"

Gak. I really wished I could log in and say "Look, moron... There's a difference between a failure to call for emergency response and a failure to call the ever-lovin' press."

Good grief. It's the press's job to find out and report stuff. It's not the Vice President's job to keep them posted immediately on any incident that happens to him. They'll find out soon enough.

President Bush knew Saturday evening that Vice President Dick Cheney had accidentally shot a hunting companion, but the information wasn’t made public until the next day by a private citizen, the White House acknowledged Monday.

Need a new Press Secretary.

One who knows how to say, "Yeah...so? Since you don't have a point...other than the one on top of your head...let's move on to important matters. Next?"

It was an accident. Cheney saw to the victim first unlike Ted Kennedy who ran away and worried about himself.

McClellan needs to grow a pair. If I was him I would have basically told the media to crawl back under their rocks.

This accident was a private matter between the Veep and his friend.

Sex. guns and rock 'n roll...they're all private matters. Just ask Slick Willie.

I think the liberal media is all over this because it has to do with GUNS and by extension the NRA. Oh the horror, GUNS and the NRA!!! (massive sarcasm alert)
