Sir Ian McKellen has said openly gay US actors are prevented from having successful Hollywood careers.
"It is very, very, very difficult for an American actor who wants a film career to be open about his sexuality," the gay British actor said.
"And even more difficult for a woman if she's lesbian. It's very distressing to me that that should be the case."
The Lord of the Rings star added: "The film industry is very old fashioned in California."
He was speaking at the Berlin Film Festival, where he received a lifetime achievement award.

David Hyde Pierce? Crud.
Again, which the chicken, which the egg? Does acting ATTRACT moral tranwrecks, does it MAKE them, or is the relationship symbiotic?

When Ellen Degeneres had her big "coming out" event (trying to salvage her lame sitcom, but instead she killed it) several Hollywood gays came out to show their support. Nathan Lane was one of them and was very public about it, calling a press conference, going on talk shows, etc.
I wanted to grab him by the shoulders, look him straight in the eye and say "Nathan, bubalah, we knew! We always knew. Get over it."

All actors might not be gay, but all gays are most assuredly actors.

Well, except for Ellen Degeneres, KD Lang, Portia de Rossi, Nathan Lane, Wilson Cruz, Rosie O'Donnell, George Takei, David Hyde Pierce, and many others! That's your list? A two daytime talk show hosts, a singer who hasn't had a hit in ten years, a few supporting players from long-cancelled TV shows, and Nathan Lane?

So, according to this, Nepotism are the only criteria for hiring actors or actresses.
- Talent is ruled out just by watching movies.
- Exceptionally attractive appearance are ruled out because, while current actors and actresses are as comely as surgeons and implants can make them, they are not exceptionally so.
- Sexiness is ruled out because current stars are about as sexy as starfish.
- Courage or morals, and the ability to portray them, is ruled out by the Stars being as spineless as jellyfish.
That leaves Nepotism.
This same conclusion works for producers and directors, but the arguments change. And, if the technical people, cameramen, gaffers, etc., were better it wouldn't take so many takes to make a movie, they'd be a lot cheaper.
