Sir Ian McKellen has said openly gay US actors are prevented from having successful Hollywood careers.
"It is very, very, very difficult for an American actor who wants a film career to be open about his sexuality," the gay British actor said.
"And even more difficult for a woman if she's lesbian. It's very distressing to me that that should be the case."
The Lord of the Rings star added: "The film industry is very old fashioned in California."
He was speaking at the Berlin Film Festival, where he received a lifetime achievement award.
One friend of Flynn's says that Flynn used to cruise high schools checking out the young female talent. I've never seen anything where someone proved he was bi-sexual. But of course we're talking about Hollyweird aren't we. Anything is possible.
Elizabeth Hurley - NOT GAY AFAIK!
Let's be honest. Nobody watches a Seagal movie for great acting and/or great drama. They watch it to see Seagal break bones and kill bad guys. Most John Wayne or Charles Bronson flicks weren't much different. Beats watching "My Dinner With Andre" or whatever the heck it was called.
Flynn had enough pecadilloes that were well-known. There was really no reason to make up new ones. he's another of those "stars" whose real-life persona is blurred with his onscreen ones. We always think of him as a swashbuckling hero, when in reality, he was a drunken, drug-using skirt-chaser who liked teenage girls. He is another example of why it may be best not to know everything about a movie star.
"Tom Cruise...come out of the Closet!"
I rest my case
I've read Flynn's auto-bio, and if he wrote it, which seems likely or at least hasn't been disproved, he was a fairly intelligent guy. And one of the few Hollywood tough guys who really was tough in real life. He beat the snot out of Hollywood tough guy character actor Gwyn "Big Boy" Williams after Williams insulted Flynn on-set during one adventure flick filming.
There is no such thing as a male bisexual. Period.
From the link:
According to Bret and some other biographers, Flynn had an affair with supporting actor Ross Alexander (1908-1937) during the filming of Captain Blood. Speculation about their possible relationship seems to be supported by the tenderness and intensity of their onscreen performances. Adding to the script, Flynn constantly refers to Alexander as "dear" and "darling." Intentionally or not, some of the scenes by Flynn and Alexander have a homoerotic aura: for example, Flynn's massage of Alexander's leg, interrupted by the question "What's going on between you two?," as Lionel Atwill enters the set. A number of Flynn's other screen performances also have homoerotic dimensions, including, for instance, his flirtatious conversations with a decidedly uncomfortable Fred MacMurray in Dive Bomber (1941). However, it should be kept in mind that, while these possible "queer readings" suggest the complexity and richness of his acting, they do not provide firm evidence about Flynn's own sexual orientation or experiences.
How do you know they didn't?
EXACTLY!
Shaddup ya whiny fruitcake. Geeawed.
Rosie and Ellen both have taken a dive deep and fast by sexually harassing their fans. Who cares if Rosie is fat and gay; people liked her until she came out of the closet with the flaming and raging dyke number. Ellen used to have wide audience appeal. Now she performs gay comedy to mostly gay audiences in gay cities.
After the public knows a man is gay, they don't want to see him playing the part of a normal guy. It's too much of a lie.
A wider audience won't go to a gay movie because they don't enjoy gay themes.
Haven't seen it, but I'll look into it.
At one time, a few years ago, Brandon Fraser was one of my two favorite actors in movies (not stars or celebrities, mind you, but actors). He does well in drama, comedy, kid stuff, action, and even total crap (Dudley Doo-Right comes to mind here). I can't think of a light drama that I saw him in, but he'd probably do fairly well. After "The Mummy 2" (Returns? whatever.), I thought he was poised to be a sort of Saturday matinee idol, sort of (but probably not quite) the next Harrison Ford. And if you ever see a JPEG of the old Doc Savage magazine covers from the 30s and 40s, Fraser is the spitting image of Doc.
TS
Many people in the theater took it as a comedy line.
Heh, I saw it at the dollar theater with my high school buddies. We all felt ripped off afterwards...
