Britain has opened an investigation into new allegations of abuse by its forces in Iraq after a newspaper released what it described as videos showing soldiers savagely beating Iraqi youths.
The News of the World said on Sunday the alleged attack by eight soldiers, which followed a scene showing youths throwing stones at the soldiers, was videotaped in southern Iraq in early 2004. CNN has not confirmed the authenticity of the film.
Britain's defense ministry said it was aware of the "serious allegations" and that a military police investigation was looking into them.
"We condemn all acts of abuse and brutality and always treat any allegations of wrongdoing extremely seriously," said a spokesman.
The News of the World said the scenes, which lasted about two minutes, were videotaped by a corporal "for fun," apparently from a nearby rooftop.

So CNN wants the soldiers to take even injuries silently?
They're lucky the soldiers were restrained enough not to open fire on them, and just gave them a beating instead.
(And the Israelis are fools for permitting children to engage in the intifada and not putting their foot down and stop it immediately.)
CNN is just trying to stir the Mooselimbs up to more hate since the cartoon flap is slowing down some.
Aaaw, maybe the Brit soldiers should have hugged the rock throwers and kissed their tushes?
The punks deserved MORE than a filmed @ss whuppin'.
the 'News of the Worldstaff deserves boulders being "thrown" at them.
TURN OFF CNN. Thank You.
Where is the beheadings? Where is the video of the yuts getting there heads blown off?
The rock throwing punks were hit several times with a baton.
Disturbing? WTF?
I saw the clip on Fox News. I'm sure they weren't "beating them" for just something to do......
Would British soldiers really film something that could put them in trouble? Could this ever be hoax something that happened months ago too?
Okay. They think we have to let the enemy fly planes into buildings, blow up subways in England, blow up train yards in Spain, attack the U.S.S. Cole, and on and on. I'm done with this thing about sitting down and talking to solve this. I support those UK Soldiers and all the rest that are in uniform in country that are on our side. Terrorists and all the ones that take their example are nothing other than school yard BULLIES and when someone finally reacts and gets them the first thing these leftist commies want to do is stick up for them.
So the issue is the Brits "beating" the Iraqis, not the fact that the Iraqis were throwing rocks at the soldiers?
This is like real life. If some bozo throws a rock and hits me I am going to try and kick that guys ass. Lesson to muzzies: dont throw rocks at the limeys.COR BLIMEY!
I saw the footage on fox news...
FALSIFIABLE EVIDENCE...
You couldnt even see the names of the soldiers or the faces or the insignia. At the end of the film they ran production credits to Michael Moore and Barbara Streisand. No doubt filmed in Sheehanistan.
Could be more 'fake but accurate' stuff. I'm waiting for the evidence rather than lodging charges based on propoganda films from al queda.
You can't touchy-feely your way in this world, and if someone throws something at you you beat the living crap out of them. You make sure they can never get up again. The troops should have killed them when they threw rocks, that's my only beef. Now you have a bunch of pissed-off angry youths with nothing much to live for except getting back at us. When will our leaders learn that the OLD way of fighting - killing and stomping and breaking and destroying - is the only way to win a war?
-"We condemn all acts of abuse and brutality and always treat any allegations of wrongdoing extremely seriously," said a spokesman.-
BUT...abuse and brutality by young terrorists-in-the-making is A-OK!
In the article itself we read:
"...........attack by eight soldiers, which followed a scene showing youths throwing stones at the soldiers, was videotaped in southern Iraq in early 2004. CNN has not confirmed the authenticity of the film."
Then, as you've noted:
"You couldnt even see the names of the soldiers or the faces or the insignia. At the end of the film they ran production credits to Michael Moore and Barbara Streisand."
.......and the Brits are actually investigating THAT pile of dung? Just having CNN's name on it should be cause enough to Roundfile With Extreme Prejudice.
I shall never forget the films of the awful incident in Northern Ireland during the troubles. This was over 15 years ago. The British Army "hard men" were known to be the Paratroops. Always a risk with elite forces, when they are cut loose. A shot was heard the officer said. Taunted by the youths, they cut down 13 Irish Catholic youths. Terrible. I hated the IRA, but I was haunted by a poor elderly man, waving a white hankerchief. He was leading men, carrying a wounded youth.
Thank God, if that is all the "lads" bloomin' well did, this time. Well the rotten "News of the World" had a field day. As for CNN, I repeat what I said previously re the Rodney King replays- ie:Criminal Bastards. Caused indirectly 54 deaths in the riots that followed.
I remember over fifty years ago, when a hefty section of the News of the World, consisted of court reports. These were to do with salacious sexual accounts.
A woman told me, the paper was delivered to be read by "dirty old men" lying in bed. LOL
