I just heard from the marvelous Stacie Rumenap (who makes CPAC run) that Sen. George Allen (R.-Va.) won this years CPAC straw poll. I dont have the complete results at this point, but as soon as I get them, I will post. Here are some details:

"If McCain is the nominee millions of conservatives will stay home."
It's going to be tough for McCain to get the nomination because your die-hard conservatives are the ones who "rule" in the GOP Primaries; just like the left-wing kooks run the Dem Primaries. Remember 2000? McCain did o.k. in New Hampshire but after that.......
McCain may be offered the #2 spot by the nominee; whoever that might be. Personally, I'd like to see this ticket: Allen / Rice
WooHoo!
"the ole RINO will cut a deal with the 'RATS or will do a Perot."
This is my biggest fear where McCain is concerned. Perot gave us 8 years of the Clintons. Had it not been for him; there would not be the Hillary factor today.
But, then again, thanks be to God and Ralph Nader we don't have Al Gore in the White House today. Nader's 98,000 votes in Florida put G.W. in the Oval Office.
I know I would.
McCain has been trying to court the conservative vote since the 04 election was over, as has Giuliani. But, I'm very happy to see a real conservative like Allen was the winner. I support Allen for president, and I think a good ticket could be Allen/Pawlenty or Allen/Sanford.
I like Allen. I also like Sen Cornan(sp) from Texas. He seems like a real sharp guy.
That 20% represents the RINO vote.
Wow. Bill Owens actually got votes? This poll must have been taken in 2002
Lol, "cloven-hoofed she-male"??
The day the GOP settles on McCain, is the day I'm going into the tinfoil hat business.
However McCain will wind up as an Independent OR as a Dem candidate as the final defiant gesture of his perpetual tantrum.
This will be looked back at as the Wright brothers first flight. It wasn't loong but it got things started. George Allen is the next POTUS. If he selects Ken Blackwell he will do damage to the rat that he won't soon recover from.
He will jack his Black vote up to 18% or more. That will knock the rat's lights out.
Interestingly, about 80-90% of the participants were in the 18-20something demographic. (I am sorry, but I did not write down the exact numbers). This was most likely driven by two factors: 1) A large percentage, possibly a majority of CPAC attendees were college republicans and 2) the older participants may have been less likely to seek out the terminals for the straw poll to participate (myself among them!) The implication of all this, however, is that the straw poll should not be construed as representative of the overall conservative movement, but rather as representative of the youngest generation in the conservative movement. I personally doubt that McCain would have done as well had the poll included a higher percentage of 30-60 somethings.
If that's the pick for preliminary candidates, I'M staying home...
Quite a CPAC showing for Hizzoner.
Yes it is disturbing, especially for CPAC.
Add to that Giuliani got 19%...
Where the heck is the conservative base???
No. Add 19% for Giuliani. That's at least 39% RINO.
