Rich privileged WASPS aren't your bag eh? I think that impeachement of Bush is a bit superficial. Bush was much more effective against Dukakis. I think it was health issues.

To the contrary, I have met few people with the warmth and charisma of George Allen.

That may be so in a one-to-one situation, and if so, great. But it does not come across in TV interviews or in speeches.

If he and his supporters are serious about a run, their first order of business is to get him some intense media training...and not just a couple of sessions. If he is, as you say, warm and likeable in person, then he can be coached.

Like it or not, fair or not, it's a fact of life that personality weighs heavily in an election. It doesn't matter how good your ideas are--you've got to get people listening first. It's an inherent part of leadership, and why Reagan was so successful.

Perot certainly did cost Bush the presidency. He took 15% of the votes.

Perot took them about equally from Bush and Clinton, with a regional accent.

You may be right but this will be debated for decades.

"Perot's almost 19% of the popular vote made him the most successful third-party presidential candidate in terms of popular vote since Theodore Roosevelt in the 1912 election. Some analysts believe that Perot acted as a spoiler in the election, primarily drawing votes away from Bush and allowing Clinton to win many states with less than a majority of votes."

You are right on! I first saw Allen in the early 90's when he was running for Governor of Virginia. He was electric and I have never been so moved since.

This was at a rally at a private home. I have seen him on TV recently and he does not have what it takes for this venue.

He needs help!

Say what you will about my post, but Rudy's personal history, and stance on issues, make him an AWFUL candidate.

Anyone who calls themself a "conservative" yet drinks the kool-aid on a letch like Giuliani needs to explain themselves. At least McCain has a conservative voting record and served his country honorably.

I tend to find that those who drink the Kool Aid on Giuliani do so based upon the media's promotion of him as their favorite Republican. As one who lived in NYC on his watch, I have seen the REAL Rudy firsthand, and it aint pretty.

I think we need to help Santorum win re-election to the Senate. He would be a great presidential candidate.

Is there anyone in the world you hate more than Rudi?

Among Republicans, no. Pataki may have the spine of a jellyfish, but at least he is a man of honor. Rudy, on the other hand, is a total letch as a person who was going nowhere politically until 9/11 happenned. He makes a few common sense decisions and good speeches and becomes "a hero."

Of course, if you look at his overall record, you will see that he would best serve his country as ambassador to Burkina Faso.

the reason Perot got votes is because neither of the politicians represented those voters.

And if Perot hadn't been there?

Would those voters have stayed home?

And for one brief moment, we were reminded of what the Framers intended when it came to the responsibilities of voting. To actually vote for what you believe instead of voting for a party.

I agree, I vote on ideology, not party.

What would say would happen if the talking head shows gave actual equal time to some of the third parties? Say the two major alternate parties. Not just bring them on to discuss the fringe issues (i.e. Libertarian Party (big L) and drugs) but serious mainstream issues. Equal time on the 24/7 networks when serious issues are discussed for 6-8 months before the elections. I'd gather you'd find more than a few defecting from the one party system we currently have.

Since we don't have a run off system, simply put, the closer to the mainstream parties would split the vote, and the largest party outside the mainstream would win....often.

That said, equal time is not nor should not be an entitlement, if these 3rd parties want it, raise money, and run ads and prove your viable, thats how Perot did it.

FWIW, I can't say if Clinton is right or wrong about his belief that Perot helped him win his election, the bottom line is, Bill Clinton did get elected president, and did serve 2 terms in office, and we do not know, that Clinton ever would have had one day in the white house, if Perot had not run.

Its an unwritten but known rule, that without a run off system, 3rd parties always wind helping the party that is farthest away from them win and hurting the party that is closest to them.

It's still very early...

I assume you think its possible they may change their minds and renege on their pledges...or they were just dishonest.

I will not vote for McCain in the primaries unless he disavows CFR.

I will not abandon the republican candidate in the general election even if it is McCain. McCain is conservative in other areas that are worth protecting, and I'd rather have him selecting judges than Hillary Clinton.

My favorite is Dick Cheney.

2nd favorite is Jeb Bush.

Good judgement my a-s.

If how he handled every tabloid expose of his personal life, or, for that matter, every police scandal that occurred on his watch is any indication, Guido Giuliani does not deserve to have his finger on the button.

As a fellow U of Chicago alumnus, I am surprised at you! Would you actually let some third rate graduate of Manhattan College be the leader of the free world?

You spent too much time in Bay Ridge methinks. I call them as I see them. We shall see what I see as time goes by.

Nice try. What the Texas flag on my profile page didn't tell you was that I also worked in Newark for several years while Rudy was mayor. What I observed was often far different from the assessment of some of the 'experts' here.

Well you outrank me. I did not live one day of my life in NYC< except as a tourist. But my dad lived in NYC from 1906-1946, before moving to the left coast, and had many interesting NYC tales to tell. Does that count?
