Stupid story to start with really does need double posting. It's a private company that has NOTHING to do with security. Just more misreporting by the Junk Journalists

My only surprise about this developement is that Bush isn't pushing for some Latin American company to take over our ports.

a maritime industry considered vulnerable to terrorism.
Major donk talking point for over a year is that shipping is not secure. However, these same folks have not, to my knowledge, ever raised one question over Chinese control of major ports in/surrounding the US.
Please note this does not mean I am comfortable with either a UAE firm or a Chinese firm controlling US ports. Nor am I reassured by being told that both have been vetted by intelligence agencies whose performance appears in hindsight to have been less than thorough. I am not reassured that this is a private firm, since it is based in a country and a culture quite dependant on its government for continued existence.
Maybe I am just too old. After awhile, fatalism sets in. After all, there doesn't seem to be much the average citizen can do about any of this.

I know in the hate Bush always world they want to make a mountain out of nothing so they can whine about Bush DAILY, but this really is NOTHING.
It is really interesting that the "Real Conservatives" are willing to line up with little Chuckie Schumer to spew their hate Bush nonsense on this one. Seems the hate Bushies are more then willing to line up next to the Moveon.org wackos as long as they can spew their daily does of hate.
Amazing how supposedly "Limited Govt." Conservatives always seem to find SOMETHING they want the Govt to micromanage for them. Gee I guess this is just another example of the Whine All The Time Choirs situational principals hmmm?

Johnnie, you have got your head so far up your a$$ that you can't see daylight.
How many Muslims do you think live in the "United Arab Emirates"?
I looked at your home page where it says, " I work as a Computer Routing Specialist for Supervalu. A former Army Infantryman, I am a political junkie and passionate George W. Bush Supporter. I have reached the end of my tolerance for the absolutely criminal behavior of the Hysterical Left in this country. What the Left seems unwilling to grasp is this simple fact. No amount of money, peace vigals or encouter groups are going to keep them safe from people who are convinced their god wants all Americans dead. There are no ground for "peaceful coexistence" with the Islamic Terrorists.
We have three choices, kill them, convert to Islam or die. Since I have no desire for the last two, the first is my choice. Now, sonny either make up your mind to sh1+ or get off the pot. This isn't the religion of peace as Bush keeps saying! Go ahead and tell me that you now trust these ragheads to sort out terorists for us and keep them out of our ports
Have you all of a sudden become a Muslim Lover and believer in Islam or are you still a neo con fanatic about selling America out for the Dollar?

I do not suppose anyone even bothered to note how Asso Propaganda did not bother to accurately report the story. Funny how a company IN the UAE, suddenly because the GOVT of the UAE part way thru the story. Disjointed, hysteric DNC hit piece pretending to be news. Junk Journalism at it's worse.

It is not a private company. It is OWNED by the United Arab Emirates government, along with CSX International which was purchased by UAE last year.

What can be done to stop this? If we let 6 major ports be controlled by a terrorist-sponsoring nation, we're not serious about the War on Terror.

Our ports are the most vulnerable of all our borders. Container ships are hardly inspected at all. Why worry about hijacking an airplane when you can drive a ship right into Manhattan?
Michael Savage is all over this issue. It even has him bring Schumer on his show and the both agreeing on it. Bush needs to let a few heads roll on this issue. I guess 9/11 had its 15 minutes. So much for the 3,000 dead and their families. Oh well, what's on channel 2?

We need to show the 9/11 video more often, perhaps to Darrell Worley's "Have You Forgotten?" Maybe right before and after reports on Portgate.
Or on radio, surround the reports with a montage of 9/11 reports and the song.

Well,...that is fine for now, but we need to start throwing people out of office and electing a new generation that will protect christian/jews from this menace.

apparently, UAE is still a haven for money laundering, just as it was used to transfer $ during 911. http://www.albawaba.com/en/countries/Cyprus/193176 Dr. Gil Feiler, a prominent expert on Middle East economics, estimated the total money laundering in the United Arab Emirates at more than US$ 30 billion per year. He said money laundering phenomena is booming in this part of the world. Dr. Feiler, author of Rethinking Business Strategy in the Middle East for the Economist Intelligence Unit, stressed that the easiness of money laundering is also due to the fact that there is no income tax in the UAE and its surrounding countries around the emirates. Many foreigners, mainly European and Russians, are taking advantage and laundering their money in the small and prosperous emirates, he added. The biggest problem, according to Dr. Feiler, is the fact that at various ways a friction of these monies finding its way to finance global "terrorism." It is true that the government of the UAE taking steps to curb money laundering but it seems that until now the results are not encouraging, and the UAE is an heaven to money launderers, he was quoted as saying. Last week, the AP reported that the Federal Reserve Board ordered ABN AMRO Bank NV to pay roughly $80 million in fines. The bank acknowledged that employees of its Dubai, United Arab Emirates, office processed wire transfers between 1997 and 2004 on behalf of Iranian and Libyan clients. Wire transfers involving Iranian and Libyan nationals were prohibited during that period by the US authorities. Dr. Feiler, who spoke on the various channels of money laundering in the Arab Gulf region, pinpointed to some sectors whereby the UAE is not a recognized manufacturer but its trade volume was huge. © 2005 Al Bawaba (www.albawaba.com)
