Public anger at Muslim protesters

Poll reveals fear of future clashes

PEOPLE in Britain take a hard line against Muslims protesting violently against supposed insults to their religion, and are gloomy about future relations between Muslims and the rest of the population. Muslims protested peacefully in Trafalgar Square yesterday. But a Sunday Times-YouGov poll of more than 1,600 people shows widespread public anger about protests earlier this month in Britain and the worldwide uprising in response to Danish cartoons picturing the prophet Muhammad.

The poll shows that 86% of people think the protests were “a gross overreaction”. By 56% to 29% respondents said it was right to publish the cartoons in Denmark and republish them elsewhere.

Earlier this month Muslim protesters in Britain carried placards urging violence and death against those who insult Islam, and celebrating last year’s July 7 London bombings. Asked about those protests, 58% said it made them angry and 76% said the police should have arrested those carrying offensive or provocative banners.

The police and politicians are criticised more generally for not confronting Islamic extremism, with 80% of respondents saying the authorities show too much tolerance of Muslims who urge extreme acts. Two-thirds, 67%, think this is because senior policemen such as Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan police commissioner, are too “politically correct”.

Such views have been brought to a head by last week’s conviction of Abu Hamza, the Muslim cleric, for inciting religious violence and racial hatred. After reports that his activities had been known to the police for many years, 67% believe he should have been arrested much sooner, and 69% believe he should have been given a “significantly longer” sentence than seven years.

The support for a tough line extends to the anti-terrorism bill, which returns to the Commons next week. Tony Blair backed down on a proposal for terrorist suspects to be held for up to 90 days without charge, but 44% of people back the extension to 90 days, against 42% who say 28 days is an acceptable compromise.

Where foreigners stir up racial and religious hatred, 81% of people think they should be sent back to their own countries, even if to do so would endanger their lives.

There is widespread gloom about the future, with 87% expecting further attacks in Britain by Islamic groups on the scale of the July 7 bombings; and only 17% seeing a future in which there is peaceful coexistence between Muslims and others in Britain, while 67% think there will be a worsening of tensions. This is also true internationally. While 34% say western nations can coexist peacefully with mainly Muslim countries, 45% disagree.

We are so lucky our southern labor expansion pool IS catholic.

The major social issues the hispanics bring are acceptance of public corruption and cronyism at a level that would make some congressmen blush, lack of functional democratic processes, etc. While public corruption exists everywhere, in the US public officials generally try to cover it up, and cops don't take bribes for tickets. In Latin America, you hear about the scandal where xxx owns the company that stole the money for public works project xyz, but nothing comes of it. He keeps his public ministry job and that is that (and the project is half-finished forever).

Given what the europeans are dealing with with THEIR southern labor expansion pool's beliefs, we are VERY lucky.

I figured the 14% might be in comas or Muslim/Muslim sympathizers: liberals.

You are right - hard line liberals don't let anything as messy as the real world influence their prejudices, er, I mean views.

At least THEIR newspapers have gotten the message, in contrast to ours. We lose nearly 3,000 people and all our mainstream newspapers can spout is anti-American B.S.! Maybe the Brits are just better at fighting wars than we are--or they have a better sense of their mortality!

Heck don't be sorry - one thing I'm learning on FR is how good it is learn from each other without the MSM gloss. It's also where the sense of humor (that Islam singularly lacks) comes into it's own.

kind regards

Way to sing it! I'd really like to see our country polled about this issue but I'm afraid I wouldn't like the results.

I love England! And the best thing is that it doesn't require a visa or learning another language. Plus, British Air is awesome!

9/11 woke me up from my middle aged slumber.

There are still apologists for it over here - I call them people with big BUTTS - you know "well it was wrong but..."

I find it harder to understand how American citizens would not take 9/11 as the attack on America and the Free World is so obviously was.

kind regards.

"will we now wake up!?"

Not yet. I believe the west will have to be attacked and attacked harder then 911 while it is proven that the Muslim world approves of the attack.

I believe Roosevelt did allow the Japanese to attack pearl harbor with no resistance for this very reason.

Of all the evil perpetrated against the world by liberals, political correctness is one of the most insidious and dangerous. The hold it has on the world is nothing less than staggering, and this recent hullabaloo is a perfect example of its inevitable fruits. Leaders in the USA, the UK, and every other Western society on the planet have engaged in a wholesale abandonment of common sense, in favor of the idiotic notion that all cultures and all moral systems are created equal.

If the trend isn't quickly reversed, political correctness will eventually lead to a huge sacrifice of innocent life. We cannot defeat enemies that we dare not even identify honestly.

I don't know, Kay, my husband works all over the country, and when he is home, he has to phone all over the country! The majority of people (that he's spoken to) are very much against Islamofacists. Particularly, now that we've seen these ignorant thugs burning, raping, and murdering over CARTOONS!!!

Hopefully, we would be pleasantly surprised.

Excerpt, diagnosis by Dr. Sanity, http://www.drsanity.blogspot.com

What really is obvious is that there are many leaders and followers of Islam who are living in a paranoid delusion of massive proportions.

Ask yourself what function a delusion like this serves for the user--what painful truths it serves to cover up, and what unacceptable thoughts or feelings it disguises--and you will understand why both paranoia and denial are powerful and immature/psychotic psychological defense mechanisms that are completely out of touch with reality.

Mmmm - interesting point. Yes - we have had terrorist attacks in Europe but for some reason none of them have had a real impact on the psyche of the people.

Our 7/7 here has been all but submerged by the continued tragic farce of the shooting that innocent Brazilian chap. We seem to have lost a sense of perspective.

But any progress is a plus....

Now...off to church I go - Blessing to you and all FReepers.

kind regards,

"Earlier this month Muslim protesters in Britain carried placards urging violence and death against those who insult Islam, and celebrating last year’s July 7 London bombings. Asked about those protests, 58% said it made them angry and 76% said the police should have arrested those carrying offensive or provocative banners."

Lets see, We have Muslims protesting, urging violence against people in a completely different country, and celebrating a violent act committed in the name of Islam and the teachings of it's (anything but a) prophet Mohammad (Pee Be Upon Him), all because of a drawing accompanying an editorial about the violent teachings of Islam's so called prophet, which was written 4 months ago.

Not only that, the pictures shown to Muslims in Nut-bar Islamic countries weren't even the ones which were printed in the editorial. It seems to me that first, the Muslim terrorist who went to these nut-bar Islamic countries with the intent to create a violent uprising should be arrested and thrown in prison for life for doing this, and there are laws in the UK prohibiting anyone from trying to incite violence, which these "protesters" were so obviously doing.

Where is the SPINE of UK politicians? They should be deporting these uncivilized animals back to their respective sandboxes. The great experiment failed. You can't civilize animals by putting them in a civilized environment. It isn't the poverty Islamic dictators inflict on their people that is the cause of this animal like behavior, it is the religious cult they live by that is.

But, instead of having flights leaving every half hour, 24 hours a day taking these savages back to the land of murder and weekly stonings of adulteresses, and other crimes against Islam, they are considering limiting freedom of speech, freedom to point out the evil of the cult of Islam, subjecting the people to discrimination, and living as second class citizens under Islamic animals, who do nothing but leach off the social programs, paid for by the working citizens of the country. Paid to protest, commit acts of violence, kill their children, fathers mothers and brothers, with the full blessings of the government.

The world is indeed gone insane. It's time for the people to wake up their governments, or kick the ones they have out and install a new one. It anyone wants to live, then remember, your life is in your hands. It's your right to protect it, because the government won't. They only protect the enemies of freedom and criminals.

All I can say to the Europeans is, "Welcome to reality. We knuckle-dragging, imperialist, cowboy troglodytes have been dealing with it for about five years now, and it's nice to see you finally waking up to it."

Your last statement was HUGE. I have ALWAYS thought this was the case. How can you "identify the enemy" when you're still stuck in the mode of searching old ladies (myself included!) and children at airport security?? The loss of "common sense" comment was also right on the money!

(Of course, we can all thank the GREAT Hillary Clinton for even the term "political correctness"--to say nothing of the concept!) I am SO glad she did poorly in the presidential polls. Kinda renews my faith in human nature.
