I know this will get me flamed...
But breathing in vaporized depleted uranium can't be good for the human body.

Radiation poisoning OR exposure to nerve gas.
Damn tragedy that's been swept under the rug.

I'm Joe and I won't say "It Ain't so" because this is what war is. God Bless All of our People in country. They are ALL my Brothers and Sisters and God Bless them All, for what they have done for America; which is what we are.

Breathing in ANY vaporized metal is not good. Most of the problems reported with DU have to do with the fact that it is a metal.

Yes, but if military personell are or have been, handling depleted uranium in some way.....do they KNOW they are?
If this is true, that's criminal of the government to hold back such information from them.
Not only is it criminal, it's also a sin.

They are just repeating old stories about Gulf War Syndrome, nothing new here.
After four years in the Marines, I decided to stay for thirty (The Congress had other ideas later on) Knowing full well that once I retired my life expectancy would be limited based upon those things I had to do as a Marine.
This can be stated enough, when you join the military you know that there is a better then average chance that what you are doing will kill you in some fashion or other.
I resigned myself to the fact that I might not live past 60, and I'm not there yet.

I read the article and see nothing in it that would indicate a connection to depleted uranium, vaporized or otherwise. The State Senator and State Veterans Commissioner bring up the subject but they present no evidence to back up a connection. According to the article, both of the affected veterans served in Saudi Arabia, not in Iraq, nor in an area where depleted uranium munitions would have been used. I have heard some thought provoking speculation that some of the effects suffered by our service members might be the result of nerve agents or some other chemical agent that were in some of the Scud missiles that were shot down.

Well, here's hoping you see 60 and many more years after that too.
Thank you.......Semper Fi (I can say that as a civilian, yes?)

Thank you for your service, usmcobra. I'm retired Army, and I know exactly how you feel. I'd do it again in a heartbeat for my Country. ;)
My only "problems" are ruined joints and some lower back problems from time to time; nothing like some of our fellow servicemembers are suffering by a long shot.
I'd recommend to any Freepers reading to keep on top of what's going on at their local VA Hospital. We are going to have so many vets with serious health problems and many disabled vets when this is all said and done. Anything you can do to help (volunteer your time at the hospitals, work for better benefits through your CongressCritter and local politicians, keep the heat on, on the National level, donate dollars or goods, etc.) could make a world of difference to a Vet.
And I can guarantee you won't hear any of them complain about the shape they're now in. They'll just suck it up and keep on moving forward with their lives.

This is WAR, get use to it. The only rules in WAR is that there are NO rules. Men and Women have fought and died for AMERICA dealing with anything that came in. God Bless them ALL. They at least had their OLD SARGES, GUNNY'S, and CHIEFS to help them understand this, did you?

I don't complain about my knees(gone), my hearing(which is so bad I can't have a conversation with a McDonald's clerk) or those little whatzit's pains I get from standing too long in one spot.
I chalk it up to the life I chose.
Early on in my time as a Marine I went a VA hospital for oral surgery, and my life was saved by an unknown Viet Nam vet who was dying from Agent Orange.
I was placed in his room while still medicated after the surgery, and the stitches came loose and I started to drown in my own blood, I was too weak to roll over and puke it out. This man that was clearly dying, could not talk or walk or even get out of bed made such a fuss on the intercom that the nurses ran into the room to see what was going on.
I was rushed back into surgery and never saw him again, never had the chance to say thanks and I still remember it as if it was a dream, only it wasn't.

Maybe you didn't read my whole post.
"The State Senator and State Veterans Commissioner bring up the subject but they present no evidence to back up a connection. " I reread the entire article for a
third time to verify, at no point is it stated that these service people had been exposed to DU. I did read some
unsupported speculation by people who weren't there. As to battlefield effects of DU you might want to go to this site:
