I've been thinking about this lately. Bad memories of things I've done frequently pop into my head. Eg. An unkind word, a reckless act, etc. I deeply regret them. I can only imagine what my torment would be if I had had an abortion. These women need our prayers. They do not benefit from denial of their mental and physical anguish.

After a woman commits the worst form of child abuse, to wit; murder, then the minor forms, like starving and brutality are easy.

I have a friend who has joined a support group to mourn the loss of her grandchildren. This woman is haunted by the fact she never stopped her daughters from having abortions. She says it was the greatest mistake of her life, that she supported their decisions. She told me that she now knows if she had only said 'do not do this' they would not have. Now they all suffer, regrets and heartache.
I can see her suffering and want to scream at her "I told you so". Generations of women and men are suffering over these acts.

I personally know of four women who have aborted. Two have been clinically diagnosed as depressed, and one of them has a closet of painkillers she eats like candy.

The other two have found forgiveness through Christ. They're doing alright.

As a minister I am there, many times, after the fact of an abortion. What I encourage the mother (and father, if possible) to do is renounce the abortion.
"Father, I admit I am a murderer. I ask you to forgive me because Jesus paid for this sin. If I had this to do over again I would keep the baby. In Jesus' Name. Amen." (I also have them name the child they killed.)
We then put a rose in a place they have chosen and commit the child to God.
One effect of an abortion often is an irregular monthly cycle. It is fascinating that after honestly accomplishing the above the regular monthly cycle returns.

By the way: Moses, the meekest man on the earth, was a murderer. David, a man after God's own heart, was a murderer. Paul, apostle to the Gentiles, was a murderer. Forgiven and greatly used by God.

The evidence of abortion as a psychologically traumatic event goes back a good twenty years. A White Paper by Reagan's Surgeon-General C Everett Koop reported that the damaging effects were commonly reported, but that there was a need for more systematic research, which was true at the time. This conclusion was often distorted by the abortionists who have maintained falsely that Koop "found no evidence."

The research has since been done, and the verdict is unambiguous. I presented a scientific paper on the subject at the "International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies," in 1989, characterizing postabortion trauma empirically and theoretically as a variety of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, which it is.

No ethical scientist in 2006 can review the research and deny that in a large proportion of the cases abortion is psychologically harmful. That doesn't stop the many unethical scientists, doctors, etc, from continuing to lie about it however.

Indeed, a very common report from women who have aborted their babies is that they wished, someone would have told them NO. Even as they got up on the table, they report wishing that their boyfriend/husband, mother, whoever--would come into the room and stop it.

Irrational as it may sound, they feel abandoned when the rescuer does not appear.

The women I have counselled who have fully recovered from the abortion trauma have also worked through a Christian program of spiritual healing. Several of them are now offering healing to others in such a program.
