The blizzard watch is now in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning.
Snow will begin by early Saturday evening... and become heavy at times Saturday night. Northeast winds will also increase Saturday night to 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph... causing blizzard conditions along with considerable blowing and drifting of snow.
By the time the snow ends late Sunday morning... accumulations should average 6 to 12 inches... with locally higher amounts possible. The highest totals are most likely to occur across eastern portions of Long Island and southeast Connecticut.
A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to white-out conditions and make travel very dangerous.

We had a corner room and had to pin the drapes on the hotel room closed and call down for more blankets and even then one of my friends (there was three of us in the room) slept under blankets with my fake fur coat on top of her to stay warm. The heaters just couldn't keep up with all the windows and and double exposed outside walls.

They just "upped" the total in Richmond, Virginia to 6/8 inches.
That should close the city for a month. And that would be a very good thing. Maybe even the murder rate will go down.

Sure........fill up the tank, and clear the shelves of your grocery store of all food staples. Just like we did here in Richmond, Virginia. Talk about over-reactors!! A snow "flurry" in this city closes the schools (but the murder rate just goes on and on and on) Only the snow seems to get the attention of the resdients here. Surely not the dead bodies in the street!!

Perhaps you were so cold because you are used to the insufferable heat of Arizona.
I lived in Scottsdale for 3 years, working at The Phoenician. It was like living in hell. And I just loved it when they told me "But, it's a dry heat".
I reminded them that my oven also produced a "dry heat" but I sure as hell wasn't going to live in it!!
LOL, global warming indeed. South Texas is expecting a 'hard freeze'!
Put another log on the fire and pour youself a bit of single malt... hey, that's what I'm doing right now here Lone Star State.

I'm in the Philly burbs and we haven't had any real snow since before Christmastime. It's not so bad this time of year when the days are a little longer. The stuff goes away faster. We have a guy who comes and plows the driveway, and I know he's hoping for a good blizzard - - he's ALWAYS hoping for a good blizzard. I can't imagine how much he makes in a day of plowing, but it's in the thousands, no doubt about it.
Anyways, I'll be up in the morning to fire up the tractor and haul a few carts of firewood down from the main pile. I throw a tarp over it. We're loaded up with food and supplies and the fire is going good right now. I sometimes look out into the woods and wonder what the deer do when a foot of snow comes down.
But, you are right, we have thin blood here and thank goodness the weather is starting to warm up, because it's been a cold winter. No rain, but cold. When it drops below 80 out here we natives start to freeze and all the winter visitors are walking around in shorts at 50 degrees and we're wearing sweats.
Actually I am working on an ice cold Corona and some Doritos.
I only wore a light cotton shirt and an old Levis jacket on a beer run earlier - no gloves needed - but I wore my tweed hat Connery swiped for that Indy Jones flick.
What is a pain is the icey winds some night - When that hits you better have your warm gloves on - esp. if you go downtown to some of our great eateries.
Local spot with good food brews a number of beers and ales right on the premises downtown - use the best ingredients from Europe and the USA and have a staggering beer list.
They will also cook their huge Angus burgers "really rare" and juicy - the way I like our feedlot Brahma steer steaks in south Florida.
Not far from Sutton Place (one of my favorite neighborhoods in NYC).

Sorry, you must be too young to know that kid's rhyme. When you asked what they were calling for in Baltimore, it reminded me of this old game. I think it may be regional and generational.
The first person says "Apple core"
The second person replies "Baltimore"
And then the first person asks "Who's your friend?"
The second person names someone with them and the first person throws an apple core at them.
Snow wise...it is going to be 8"-14".
