NBC presents the Olympic Winter Games.
From Turin, the 2006 Olympics -- brought to you by NBC.
"It starts with a dream," declares the NBC announcer in a very-special-episode tone. "This is the place where dreams come true."
Got it. Understood. This is gonna be the dreams-come-true place for 17 days, each of them supersized to 24 1/2 hours of coverage on NBC plus sister networks CNBC, MSNBC, USA, Telemundo, Universal HD, and (who knows?) maybe other, unexpected outlets also owned by GE. Take care: Slices of Olympics coverage might soon be popping out of your toaster instead of bread.

Who could ever forget the spectacular opening ceremonies of Salt Lake City, 2002?
USA! USA! USA!
400 hours of Bob Costas.
yuck
Saw part of the opening ceremony today. Looked like a nice production.
The had pavirotti singing with full symphony and fireworks going around the olympic torch.
Hope NBC dials down the number of "Personal Moments" of the participants and shows more competition, but I doubt it.
And then only if she is dressed like this:
the real Olympics ended in 1980. after pros were allowed to play and TV packaged the games as some kind of world-without-borders, U.N. lovefest rather than a fierce,national-pride, competition, I lost interest. Without real rivalry , there's little tension.
Bode Miller ads in newspapers to pimp his crap on a website
don't add to my rabid enthusiasm.
I have one word for you - TIVO!!!
Screw 'em. I could have cared less if the modern Olympics ended right there. The last impression on anyone would have been our hockey win.
USA!
USA!
USA!
etc....

There.
In a perfect world, I wouldn't have to hear the word Olympics. Maybe the way it's supposed to be, every four years, an athletic competition for amateurs.
But that ain't gonna happen.
Yes, but did you hear Brian Williams' disparaging remark about "the Talladega fans probably can't understand Formula 1 racing" when they brought the Ferrari F-1 car out? Like "Talladega fans" suffer from some sort of contagious disease or something. IMHO, shows how much he doesn't know about race fans in the U.S.
The announcers have not failed to introduce (negative] political obersrvations at every possible opportunity.
OUTRAGE: Susan Sarandon is representing the US as one of 8 women of distinction from around the world carrying the Olympic flag - THAT IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!
I prefer to call it "must-pee TV".
I don't watch former Stasi agents. Give me Dorothy Hamill anyday.
I totally don't care. I feel a bit guilty for it but there it is.
OUTRAGE2: Yoko Ono is reciting one of John Lennon's song lyric's about peace.
ditto on the outrage. nothing like championing the anti-American Americans (hey, a new hyphenated American)
