Straight audiences are watching and loving "Brokeback Mountain" — that's troubling to evangelical Christians who have invested a decade and millions of dollars promoting the notion that gay men can be converted to heterosexuality, or become "ex-gay." It is, they insist, an ex-gay movement, although I've never met a gay man who was moved to join it.
This "movement" demands more from gay men than simply playing straight. Once a man can really pass as ex-gay — once he's got some Dockers, an expired gym membership and a bad haircut — he's supposed to become, in effect, an exgay missionary, reaching out to the hostile gay tribes in such inhospitable places as Chelsea and West Hollywood.
What should really trouble evangelicals, however, is this: even if every gay man became ex-gay tomorrow, there still wouldn't be an ex-lesbian tomboy out there for every ex-gay cowboy. Instead, millions of straight women would wake up one morning to discover that they had married a Jack or Ennis.

Sometimes I wonder if evangelicals really believe that gay men can go straight. If they don't think Chad Allen can play straight convincingly for 108 minutes, do they honestly imagine that gay men who aren't actors can play straight for a lifetime? And if anyone reading this believes that gay men can actually become exgay men, I have just one question for you: Would you want your daughter to marry one?

I would fear my daughter getting the bug or some other queer infliction. I have done a good job raising my 5 they are more intolerant of queers than I am.
I cannot name one person I personally know that has seen the movie. The closest theatre that would show it is close to 2 hours away.

The movie is a loser but to hear H'weird and the distributors tell the story the movie is HUGE hit. The lies coming out of H'weird make me sick. Most of the money was made in CA when first released. What's mandatory but not told is that ALL movies for candidacy to the Academy Awards MUST be open in Los Angeles, without exception. In 9 weeks, the movie, according to H'weird, grossed $60 million nationwide. I don't see that as a runaway hit. Compare that movie the Jedi movies or "The Passion of the Christ" and you'll see it's not that big of a moneymaker. H'weird won't survive on that pittance.
Make no mistake as to what is going on here. Christians are being driven to the margins of society. The financial attacks on the Catholic church in court is just the beginning.
Soon it will be a matter of "hate" crime for Chrisitans to talk about sins like sodomy. Law suits launched by the ACLU and others are coming.
Christian churches are being burned in Alabama. NBC, a national over the air network is planning a program on Holy Thursday which makes fun of Christ's suffering and death.
Pat Robertson can't open his mouth without the national press all over his words. Yet they won't cover controversial statements of men like Julian Bond.

But he is openly lying when he makes the statement that evangelicals have invested a decade and millions of dollars promoting the notion. No! The notion was a gift from all those mothers and fathers who brought us into this world. And it is simply an observtion that all men, as all women, are born with heterosexual biology.
Our money is simply being spent trying to stop liberals like him from scamming the courts into betraying the will of the people by legislating the gay political agenda from the bench.

Using your standards, there are only about 100 movies in the history of cinema which are hits, with everything else being a failure.

If the current trend is allowed to continue unabated, in fifty years, those who openly practice Christianity will end up dead.

Irrational. You want him to "go on straight" but wouldn't want your own daughter to participate? If everyone else felt that way, where would you find the women for these ex-gay men? Or the man who's gotten sober? Or clean? Or found Jesus? Further, she's going to take a chance of getting hurt anyway by current marital failure statistics.
Seems like Christians would rather homosexuals blink from existence: they can't embrace their homosexuality and while they may become ex-gay they may well not be embraced by the community either? These aren't solutions. Is it any wonder folks struggling with homosexual sensations aren't open about it, struggle with depression and feel shunned by Christian brethren or betrayed by the Christian community?
It's no wonder at all so many embrace the "easy" solution offered by liberalism: belonging to a homosexual ghetto.
Only a NYTimes reporter would say something so completely untrue.
The fact is most straight guys don't know what they are going to see until they are in the theatre. A straight guy will se this movie IMO as a function of whether or not he'll get into his girlfriends pants. A straight guy going to see this movie will register high on the chick meter thus facilitating the posibility of coitus after the flame flick.
It is the only way you'll get the averager Joe Six Pack to see this movie. Other than that, just cut your losses and go to a strip joint!
