The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pays for abortions (whatever the reason) through its health plan. The so-called conservative and supposedly pro-life Lutheran groups (Wisconsin Synod and Missouri Synod) work with the ELCA on many different projects while clucking their Phasisaical tongues at how liberal ELCA is.
ELCA uses its World Hunger Appeal money to lobby across America for abortion on demand.

"But we are on the brink of a de facto Christian state, and we should be very frightened for the future of religious freedom and diversity."
Imagine a church being afraid that the US is becoming a Christian state!

The United Church of Christ owned hospital in Oak Park IL performs "live birth abortions". One former nurse testified before congress that one little angel gasped for air over an eight hour shift before dying.

"The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America pays for abortions (whatever the reason) through its health plan." My wife and I left the ELCA last year for the LCMS over the 'sexuality' issue. What you say above is news to us, and would be of interest to others still with the ELCA who are likely ignorant of 'in-house' health coverage.
How do you come by this information?

No one should be fooled by the moniker "Catholics for a Free Choice." It's a name they use for publicity. They have nothing to do with Catholicism and are in no way connected to the Church.

I read her testimony for the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. It was ghastly. Barak Obama was against it. He was the state senator that got the LBA's made legal in IL.

It's not referred to as "anti Life Rights". It's "abortion rights".

The United Methodist Church unequivocally asserts, "We support the legal to abortion as established by the 1973 Supreme Court decisions."
The Social Principles of the UMC, as most recently amended in 2004, states:
"Our belief in the sanctity of human life makes us reluctant to approve abortion. But we are equally bound to respect the sacredness of the life and well-being of the mother, for whom devastating damage may result from an unacceptable pregnancy. In continuity with past Christian teaching, we recognize tragic conflicts of life with life that may justify abortion, and in such cases we support the legal option of abortion under proper medical procedures. But we do not affirm abortion as a means of birth control or gender selection. We oppose the use of partial-birth abortion and call for the end of this practice except when the physical life of the mother is in danger."
This is an improvement over earlier statements. Clearly, the UMC no longer supports the legality of Partial Birth Abortion; that was a hard-fought battle to overturn, but we managed it. I consider it a first victory among many more to come. My prayer is that we'll eventually get our position down to where we will only accept Abortion as a legal procedure "if the physical life of the mother is in danger." I wouldn't hold my breather, however ... it's going to be a long war. The pro-abortionists have long held sway in the UMC; it will take a while to turn the tide.

I also noted that the article failed to point out that Andrew Greeley was excommunicated and catholics for a free choice is extremely anti-Catholic.

Google will help you come by this information. Search on [ELCA abortion pension] for over 9k hits.
Pastors don't much like to admit to the plan. The ELCA Board of Pensions recommended that the Church Council follow the ELCA's public position against abortion, but the CC voted instead to allow abortion on demand up to 20 weeks. Several synods subsequently submitted CWA resolutions against it, but to no avail; leftists rule the ELCA.
